If you’re interested in the more practical side of midsize luxury SUVs, start with the 2024 Genesis GV80 and 2024 Lincoln Aviator. Both boast stylish exteriors, powerful engines, and room for seven. Once those passengers are inside, they’ll experience levels of luxury and comfort that reflect these vehicles’ status as among the best in the segment.

Let’s take a closer look at these luxury SUVs.

2024 Genesis GV80

After its arrival a few years ago, the Genesis GV80 quickly became one of the best offerings in the segment. Its performance matches the SUV’s aggressive and athletic-looking exterior design. On the practical side, a third row of seats is optional, and it gets a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

The standard engine is a 2.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder, putting out 300 horsepower. While that’s plenty of power for spirited driving, the 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 develops 375 hp — a noticeable upgrade. It’s a second faster from a standstill to 60 mph. Standard all-wheel drive (AWD) adds to the performance characteristics.

The cabin is luxurious and spacious. All the hallmarks of quality are present, including quilted Nappa leather and an abundance of safety and convenience technologies. Pricing starts at $59,050, including destination charges.

Genesis GV80 Highlights

Massive screen: The premium navigation system boasts a 14.5-inch HD screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM, and four USB ports. The optional Lexicon 21-speaker sound system comes highly recommended.

Class-leading warranty: Genesis offers best-in-class coverage with a 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty and a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, beating the Lincoln’s coverage with its 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty and 6-year/70,000-mile powertrain warranty.

Signature model: Genesis brought its Prestige Signature flagship package, which makes the second row more luxurious with power captain’s chairs, a wireless charging pad, and a one-touch Relax Mode, which puts the seats in an optimal posture for comfort.

2024 Lincoln Aviator

If you’re looking for old-school luxury, the 2024 Aviator checks that box with its leather-swathed cabin, including optional 30-way power seats with massage function. Lincoln is known for its plush interiors; the Aviator is no exception.

Copious power under the hood matches the abundance of interior luxury. The new Aviator comes with one powertrain, the 3.0-liter V6, which puts out 400 hp and 415 lb-ft of torque. The Aviator offers room for seven, and it can haul them — although adults in the third will want to get in and out quickly.

The Aviator features plenty of convenience electronics anchored around a 10.1-inch touchscreen. Chimes performed by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra replace the normal audible warning beeps. Pricing starts at $54,735, including destination charges.

Lincoln Aviator Highlights

Black Label: This top trim level is almost like buying into an exclusive club as it comes with various privileges (subject to certain conditions), such as pickup and return for scheduled maintenance, free car washes, free car rentals in several cities, and a few other perks. The Genesis GV80 doesn’t pamper its owners quite like this.

Strong standard engine: The standard turbo V6 under the hood of the Aviator makes an extra 100 horsepower over the base engine in the Genesis GV80. It makes this Lincoln a strong family hauler and a blast to drive, regardless of which trim you choose.

Super sound: American-based speaker maker Revel, known for its amazing sound systems for home theaters and other systems, developed the Revel Ultima 3D featuring QuantumLogic Surround 3D Sound Technology. Its 28 speakers fill the cabin with concert hall-level sound that’s more immersive than the Lexicon system available in the Genesis GV80. They also offer the 14-speaker system that comes as standard in the mid-level Reserve model.

Similarities

Big, powerful, and glorious outside, the Genesis GV80 and Lincoln Aviator are lavish and luxurious inside. They won’t be mistaken for anything else on the road, while riding inside is nothing but comfortable and relaxing. On top of it all, there are plenty of safety and convenience technologies to make driving or riding an enjoyable experience.

Conclusion

The Genesis GV80 is laden with more leading-edge technology than the Lincoln Aviator. However, no matter which of the two engines you place under its hood, it will still fall short of what powers the Aviator and cost extra. The warranty is a great perk for the Genesis, but the roomier, more affordable, and more powerful Lincoln is a better buy.
