Many netizens have eagle eyes and most of the time, they point out some trivial details that become big issues later on by how viral it goes.
Recently, Malaysian netizens were spreading a viral message on Telegram about how a PDRM officer was wearing an RM250,000 Rolex watch during a press conference, reported China Press.
The police officer was part of a drug bust where they found 117 kg and RM5.1 million worth of methamphetamine and during the conference, there were many instances that showed a close-up of her hands when she was showing the drugs.
After the issue went viral, investigations into the officer were done and the Director of the Bukit Aman Department of Integrity and Standards Compliance (JIPS), Datuk Seri Azri Ahmad said that she was wearing a replica.
“The female officer handed over the receipt of purchase proving that she bought the watch at RM570.”
He added that she bought the watch at Genting Premium Outlet and provided her source of income as well, reported Harian Metro.
The Director of JIPS urged members of the public to not make baseless accusations that will cause commotion.
“I hope that members of the public will check first before making something like this go viral.”
“Any complaints made will be investigated and the public is welcome to give us information through the right channels,” he adds.
