Last month, Sean “Diddy” Combs received the key to New York City sporting a bonkers Rolex Rainbow Cosmograph Daytona to complement his eye-catching look. He stopped by Howard University’s Yardfest this October wearing the same watch, plus layers of statement-making jewelry.
The homecoming event at the college campus in Washington, D.C. saw the Bad Boy rapper and mogul—who studied business at Howard—rock a black leather bomber jacket over a black t-shirt with drawstring joggers and high-top sneakers. He topped the all-black outfit with diamond necklaces (including one large cross piece), stacked diamond bracelets, and a chunky diamond ring. The star’s Rolex Daytona, set with an array of colorful gems, added color to the moody ensemble.

A closer look at the updated Rolex release from 2018 reveals a 40mm case crafted from 18-karat Everose gold. The bezel is adorned with 36 baguette-cut sapphires, as well as 56 brilliant-cut diamonds. The piece’s black and sunburst dial includes another 11 baguette-cut sapphire hour markers for an added dose of star power. And it’s not all just for looks: The watch runs on the Swiss watchmaker’s calibre 4130, a self-winding chronograph movement that achieves a robust 72-hour power reserve.
The ultra-rare timepiece cost $96,900 when it was initially released. It can now sell for well beyond that amount on the second-hand market. It’s unclear when Diddy bought his watch but clearly, he paid a pretty penny. Combs the main stage on campus, which is timely: he released his latest effort, The Love Album: Off the Grid, in September. Since earlier this summer, the cultural icon has donated $1 million to both his former stomping grounds and Jacksonville State University, another historically black university.
“I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for HBCUs,” he wrote in an Instagram post. “My grandmother raised me to sow my seed in my community and that’s what I’m going to continue to do!!”
