Pixelmon, a crypto and gaming project, is set to make a comeback in 2024 after overcoming initial hurdles and undergoing an ownership shift. With a major seed raise of $8 million and support from key players in the space, Pixelmon enters a new chapter with industry backing and confidence in its future.
Transformation and Artistic Revamp
Pixelmon secured the impressive $8 million seed funding, attracting prominent investors, including well-known entities like Animoca Brands and Delphi Digital. Contributions from various firms, such as Amber Group, Bing Ventures, Foresight Ventures, Sfermion, and Spartan Group, further supported this financial boost.
The project also drew the attention of notable angel investors, adding a layer of individual support and expertise. This group includes Robbie Ferguson, co-founder of Immutable, and Gabby Dizon, co-founder of Yield Guild Games.
The acquisition of Pixelmon by LiquidX in 2022 brought about a period of transformation for the project. Overcoming challenges with artwork and community perception, Pixelmon has undergone a visual overhaul, moving away from its initial Minecraft-like aesthetics to more refined designs. This shift aims to transform Pixelmon’s image and leverage its potential within the Web3 space.
Pixelmon Web3 Gaming Experiences
In October, Pixelmon rolled out Kevin the Adventurer, a hypercasual game that succeeded in drawing approximately 36,000 active participants on Base, a scaling solution for Ethereum incubated by Coinbase. The game centres around Kevin, an ogre-like figure from Pixelmon, which became popular as a meme after becoming famous as the unexpected star of the botched Pixelmon reveal.
Up next, Pixelmon is launching PixelPals this quarter, a game that merges pet care with trading card game mechanics. Subsequently, the team will release an updated version of Pixelmon Arena, a more extensive action game, later in the year. Looking further ahead, Pixelmon is developing an open-world role-playing game, Hunting Grounds, aiming for an early 2025 release.
Also, Pixelmon aims to decentralize its operations through the Mon Protocol and the upcoming MON token. This Ethereum ERC-20 token incentivizes and rewards NFT holders for their active contributions, enhancing Pixelmon’s NFT value and engaging the community in the project’s development and decision-making processes.
