Hyundai and its Genesis luxury marque have recalled more than 90,000 cars at risk of an engine compartment fire.

In case those names trigger any confusion, Hyundai built a luxury car called the Hyundai Genesis before spinning off Genesis into its own separate brand.
The company tells the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that a starter solenoid in the cars “could be contaminated with water if operated in abnormally wet conditions, such as a flooded road. Moisture contamination within the starter solenoid could cause an electrical short over time.”
An electrical short could trigger an engine compartment fire.
Owners might have difficulty starting the engine or notice a melting odor as the problem develops.
Drivers should always avoid driving through deep water and never start a car that has been in a flood unless a professional mechanic has thoroughly inspected it.

Hyundai says, “Owners can continue driving these vehicles.” But, the company recommends that owners park outside of structures and away from other cars until dealers have made repairs.
Dealers will install a relay kit in the junction box to correct the problem. “The remedy relay provides power to the starter solenoid during vehicle startup only, rather than continuously.”
