This stunning luxury yacht concept envisioned by California College of the Arts architecture student Lujac Desautel defies the traditional yacht design with its floating-platform-like architecture. Nominated for Young Designer of the Year by Boat International Media, Desautel took inspiration from Lego blocks and skyscrapers to design the beautifully minimalistic yacht named GLASS.

As the name suggests, glass as a material features extensively in the concept, giving the vessel a very unique aesthetic. Built upon a swath (small water-plane area twin hull) platform, the form of the vessel is structured vertically by three cubic volumes like interlocking Lego blocks. This allows for the maximizing of living space for guests and crew members.

The uniquely stacked superstructure features floor-to-ceiling glass windows on all sides, offering unhindered views of the ocean from anywhere on the vessel. The young designer explains the importance of glass in his design: “Light and ethereal or masculine and monumental, glass is the binary of the two opposites. Like a composer mastering the perfect composition; glass is a response to its context and ever-changing environment, maintaining essence of place through its architectural design, surface textures and sensitivity of material.”

According to Desautel, the aft deck lowers itself to the water, forming a stairway like an ancient Mayan temple. It offers easy access to the tenders and water. The stairs can also be used as a platform for the owner to host events and performances. The heart of the boxy superstructure is similar to the core of a skyscraper and features a glass elevator that freely moves between different floors.

It also passes through the crew pantries, a wine cellar, sick berth, kitchen, and day heads. The vessel gets a thoroughly modern interior that mirrors the elegantly simple aesthetic of the exterior. There’s plenty of onboard entertainment for guests, including several swimming pools and an area for kids with giant logo blocks.
