RTFKT, the creator-led company known for creating next-gen sneakers and metaverse collectibles, has officially revealed its highly anticipated collection—Project Animus—after an extended period of development.
Project Animus, initially introduced in October 2022, features an ecosystem of digital creatures known as Animi designed to complement and enhance the Clone X avatars and offer an immersive experience for the project’s community.
The recent reveal showcased a range of Animi with distinct species, design features, and elemental attributes, diverging from traditional trait-based rarity systems.

Project Animus is RTFKT’s latest intellectual property, featuring a new series of NFTs that introduce unique creatures designed to enhance the Clone X ecosystem with additional digital assets.
The Project Animus experience began on October 8, 2022, with an interactive teaser that included a live stream event called “The Eggsperience,” allowing participants to explore a virtual Animus Research Facility. This was followed by the involvement of renowned artist Takashi Murakami, who revealed the first Murakami-themed Animus creature, Saisei, on April 30, 2023.
Clone X NFT holders had the opportunity to claim an Animus Egg until March 1, 2024. This was followed by a month-long Animus Egg Incubation event from May 7 to June 4, 2024. During this event, holders of Clone X, Space Pod, Loot Pod, Exo Pod, and Lux Pod NFTs used a points-based system to improve their chances of hatching rarer Animi. The remaining 2,668 eggs were distributed among Clone X holders who signed up via a provided form, and 211 eggs were awarded to select community members.
The total supply of Project Animus Eggs is limited to 20,000, with no public sale planned.
What’s next after the reveal?
Following the reveal, RTFKT will release a collection of unique Animus Artist Edition characters. Holders of Clone X Artist Edition NFTs are assured of receiving one of these special editions.
There will be 88 Special Edition Animus distributed as follows: 8 Mythic (Dragon Sakura), 40 Shiny, and 40 Ghost Animus. The chances of receiving a Special Edition Animus are the same for all incubated Eggs, regardless of points. The distribution will be as follows: 8 of the Special Edition Animus will be allocated to Eggs incubated with a Clone X and Lux Pod, 7 to Eggs incubated with a Pod, 70 to Eggs incubated with a Clone X, and 3 to non-incubated Eggs.
The remaining Animus characters that are not allocated to incubated Eggs will be distributed to unincubated Eggs which will include Special Edition Animus as well as Gen 1, Gen 2, and Gen 3 Cosmic and Murakami Element Animus.
