On September 17, two Ethereum Layer 2 (L2) networks, Base and zkSync Era, both exceeded the transactions per second (TPS) of the Ethereum network, reaching 12.93 and 12.62, respectively, compared to Ethereum’s 10.18 TPS. This marks the first time in history that Ethereum’s Layer 2 scaling solutions have surpassed its main network. Base saw a 49.76% increase in TPS over the past seven days, demonstrating the growth and potential of Layer 2 solutions to alleviate congestion on the Ethereum network.
