Anichess Season 4 Now Live, $10,000 Reward Pool Available

Web3 chess game Anichess has entered Season 4, with a full rating reset allowing players to compete for a fresh $10,000 reward pool in $C tokens.

Utilising the recently-introduced M8 system, players will be rewarded with M8 for playing each day across Season 4. These M8 points are key to climbing the rankings and improving your rating – with the top 64 players at the end of the season to qualify for the playoffs.

In the playoffs, these 64 players will go head-to-head in a bracket tournament for a share of the $10,000 $C token reward pool.

What is Anichess?

Anichess is a Web3-powered chess game, built on Base, and available on browser.

Developed by Animoca Brands – in partnership with Chess.com and backed by chess grandmaster Magnus Carlsen – players dive into a blockchain-powered variant of the popular board game with a spell-slinging, strategic twist. Spells allow players to make big changes to the game instead of making a move, such as transforming any piece into a knight, leaping your bishop over friendly pieces, or swapping your piece with one of your opponents.

Each spell requires mana to cast, with players not only having to adapt to the challenge of a chess game where everything can change in a heartbeat, but also needing a manage a mana system that could be the key between victory and defeat.

What is Anichess M8?

M8 is an on-chain points system, introduced to Anichess in April 2025.

Built on Base, the M8 system tracks player activity in Anichess, and rewards them with the eponymous M8 for logging in daily, taking part in quick and ranked matches, and winning against opponents. The more M8 you collect, the higher your in-game rank becomes – which allows you to claim additional M8 each day.

M8 acts as the leaderboard system for Anichess. The top 64 players of Season 4 – determined by their amount of M8 points – will qualify for the Season 4 playoffs, where they will compete for a share of the $10,000 $C token reward pool.
