What is the Astar zkEVM?

The Astar zkEVM is a Polygon-powered EVM that seamlessly integrates with Ethereum-based smart contracts, developer tools and wallets.

It’s the latest innovation from the Astar Network, which aims to drive global adoption of web3 with simple, user-friendly solutions that serve as the gateway to gaming, entertainment and enterprise brands utilising and benefitting from blockchain technology.

A variety of web3 projects and service providers are already using the Astar zkEVM, including leading Polygon DEX Quickswap, NFT marketplace Rarible, and interoperability protocol LayerZero, with a variety of Japan’s leading enterprises set to also utilise the Astar zkEVM soon.

What is Yoki Origins?

The late February launch of the Astar zkEVM will coincide with the release of Astar Network’s ‘Yoki Origins’ NFT project.

Inspired by the ‘yokai’ spirits of Japanese folklore, users will be able to collect Yoki’s from ‘Yo-Ports’ – interactive capsule machines supported by over 40 web3 projects, creators and brands on the Astar zkEVM – and upgrade them further, with designs from popular artists, companies and more.

The Yoki Origins project will support social media account logins and traditional card payments, allowing those without web3-knowledge to take part.

Maarten Henskens, Head of Astar Network, said that they’re “proud to be an early pioneer in the use of Polygon’s zero-knowledge technology”, and that the team are excited to utilise the Astar zkEVM to “establish a bridge between Japan and the broader web3 ecosystem, with projects by top Japanese enterprises, famous IPs, and prominent industries to be unveiled soon.”
