Billionaires and boats are often globetrotters, which is why the 197-foot Project Supernova is ideal for the raring tycoon on the move. The luxury vessel is based on a 177-footer sister hull of I Nova delivered by Cosmo Explorer in 2013. The vessel, however, will go bigger, better, and bolder with an extra 20 feet, revamped interiors, and a reshaped bow. Netherlands-based yacht design studio Vripack has revealed photos and details about this exciting expedition vessel commissioned by a young customer who is passionate about exploring far-flung locations and deep diving.
With Project Supernova in the fleet, the adventurous owner can indulge in heliskiing in cold climates and diving in warmer climates. With these enthusiastic endeavors in mind, Supernova is equipped with a massive helipad on the bridge deck aft featuring an integrated crane to retrieve toys and tenders.
The boat comes equipped with two 39-foot storage containers to stow bikes, scooters, beach buggies, and cars. The Supernova beach club, owing to its fold-out platforms providing direct access to the sea and a dive center stocked with a complete arsenal to conquer the sea beneath you.
“He’s an adventurous, boat-loving owner who also happens to be a highly experienced helicopter pilot, very experienced sailor, and an avid diver,” said Vripack’s co-creative director Marnix Hoekstra. “He’s always on the move and wants a yacht that can keep up.” The yacht, in this case, has big shoes to fill, and Vripack ensured it delivered an impressive vessel. The interiors, masculine and inviting, are deprived of doors at the owner’s behest. For the no-door design, the studio conjured a loft-style layout featuring drop-down balconies in the main saloon.
Synthetic, sustainable wood replacement sheathes the outdoor decks while wood paneling with bronze plating, soft leathers, textured walls, and oak furniture complete the elegant decor. Six guest cabins, including a full-beam VIP on the main deck, keep guests relaxed and enveloped in a luxe ambiance. The highlight of the owner’s deck is an oval-shaped cabin with private access to both the forward and aft decks. Thanks to the presence of loungers and a firepit, these spaces can be thoroughly enjoyed throughout the day. Considering the billionaire owners and their umpteen bling, the “treasure cabinet” used to store the owner’s trinkets makes absolute sense.
Another unique area aboard the superyacht Supernova is a cigar lounge that the adrenaline junkie owner commissioned in place of a dull, lackluster office. The guy sure knows the definition of fun, and it’s not to be confined in a box with business on a yacht. While we are on the subject of not being confined, the double glass walkways, an incredibly creative touch, lend transparent crew passage blurring the lines between the interiors and exteriors. The full-displacement Supernova boasts a fuel capacity of 128,000 liters and a range of 5,500 nautical miles, with a top speed of 15 knots.
