Two luxury car dealerships owned by the Giltrap Group have been vandalised with spray paint by climate change activists in Auckland this morning.

The act was carried out by Restore Passenger Rail, with one of its members covering the windows of Giltrap Porsche and Lamborghini Auckland with red paint and the message “your luxuries, our floods”.

Its motive for doing so was to highlight emissions produced by luxury vehicles and their reflection of inequality in society.

“Their greed is killing us, and this new government is encouraging it,” Restore Passenger Rail spokesperson Joseph J Fullerton shared on social media.

“Those buying these obscenely expensive cars (up to $600,000+) are getting richer whilst fuelling more floods, cyclones, and droughts. Meanwhile, other people are struggling to pay their rent or dinner. This is not just.”

We understand that police arrived on the scene shortly after the climate activists had completed their act and that the water-based paint was subsequently washed off the windows.

Restore Passenger Rail performed a similar protest in Wellington earlier this year when it sprayed red paint on the glass and front doors of Gazley Motor Group.
