The Porsche Panamera is one of the most capable cars on the planet — as quick as an exotic 2-seater with over-the-top accommodations for four. For the driver, it’s always been a little like a jet in its eyewatering acceleration and its enormous number of buttons and switches.
For the 2025 model year, one of those things will change — and it’s probably not slowing down.
Porsche will introduce an all-new Panamera late this month. The German automaker gave us all the first glimpse of its next super-luxury sedan, and it’s missing something: Buttons.
The next Panamera will replace most of its switchgear with a trio of screens. The driver faces a curved, 12.6-inch display. The driver and passenger share a central touchscreen. And the passenger gets their own separate screen, like the one found in the recent Cayenne redesign.
Buttons and switches aren’t gone completely. But many are relocated to keep your hands where you want them in a Porsche — on the steering wheel. Porsche says this “simplifies operation of the new Panamera in all driving situations, and especially during spirited driving.”
We’re sure it does. But we wonder how much it will change the sensation of piloting the vehicle. The Panamera’s high, sculpted center console has always given the driver the sensation of being isolated in a cockpit, even while chauffeuring three people. The new interior keeps the high, bathtub-style lines of the old one but loses most of the buttons and switches.
We’ll know more soon. Porsche says the next Panamera will appear on Nov. 24.
