Polygon Unveils Plan for TPS Boost & Cross-Chain Liquidity

Polygon, Ethereum’s top scaling solution, has unveiled a new roadmap aimed at reshaping how blockchain supports payments and real-world assets (RWAs). The plan zeroes in on boosting throughput, speeding up transaction finality, and attracting more institutional players. With this shift, Polygon is setting its sights on becoming the go-to layer for global financial activity.

Polygon’s roadmap targets 100K TPS and instant finality

Major Milestones: From 1,000 to 100,000 TPS

Polygon’s first major leap forward comes with the Bhilai Upgrade, slated for July 2025. It’s set to push the network’s throughput past 1,000 transactions per second, cut transaction finality from nearly 90 seconds to just five, and lock gas fees below $0.001 in POL.

Alongside these gains, core components like the Bor and Heimdall clients are getting an overhaul, keeping the system in sync with Ethereum’s latest updates and boosting both security and usability. This puts Polygon on the map as one of the fastest chains out there, which are ideal for high-volume stablecoin use and a smoother user experience.

By late 2025, Polygon plans to shift into higher gear over 5,000 TPS. A new Validator-Elected Block Producer (VEBloP) system will make reorgs a thing of the past – huge for institutions where speed and reliability are non-negotiable. On top of that, Agglayer integration will go live, allowing assets to move easily across chains and unlocking true multichain liquidity, all powered by POL.

The big vision of the platform is that the network should be able to handle 100,000 TPS. That’s what the Gigagas upgrade, expected post-2026, is aiming for. Polygon wants to make onchain payments and RWA transfers fast enough for real-world scale, which will be trillion of dollars in flow. Validator expansion, rapid confirmations, and seamless Agglayer support will drive this next phase. At that point, Polygon won’t just support blockchain applications, it will start to look like the backbone of mainstream finance, AI economies and beyond.

Institutional Adoption and Real-World Use Cases

Polygon’s network is already home to major institutional names like Stripe, Reliance Jio, BlackRock, Apollo, and Hamilton Lane. It leads in USDC wallet addresses and holds the third spot for daily active USDT addresses, clear signs of its rising role in stablecoin driven transactions. In April 2025 alone, the network processed $3.7 billion in peer-to-peer activity, marking an 85% jump in just six months.

On the real-world asset front, Polygon hosts more than $271 million in tokenized RWAs, from Pokemon card NFTs to regulated credit funds like Apollo’s ACRED. It’s a strong example of how Polygon is bridging the gap between traditional finance and Web3 through a fast, scalable and stable infrastructure.
