When you’re a millionaire, anytime is the right time to buy a new luxury toy. Some prefer to visit the most prestigious shows in the industry and pick a brand-new build, while others have their sights set on pre-loved beauties that have proven their worthiness throughout the years. One of these beauties is the French-built La Pellegrina.

La Pellegrina is the most famous pearl in the world and an appropriate name for an equally elegant superyacht. Even after a decade, La Pellegrina dazzles with its vast onboard spaces, sophisticated style, and welcoming amenities.

Until now, it’s been famously owned by Roberto Tomasini Grinover, a Monaco-based millionaire who is developing hospital infrastructure in Africa. Like many superyacht owners, Grinover is also a lover and connoisseur of sailing boats. He even took things further by participating in prestigious regattas with great success. He was named “Owner of the Year” in 2015 after his stunning regatta yacht, the Maxi 72 Robertissima III, became Vice World Champion.

When it was time to relax and enjoy quality time with friends and family, he switched to his motor yacht, La Pellegrina. This beautiful 162-footer (49.5 meters) was built in 2012 at the Chantier Naval Couach in France. It featured an elegant exterior styled by Cano Lanza Yacht Design and modern interiors by Jean-Pierre Fantini.

Much more than eye candy, La Pellegrina boasts a remarkable performance. It makes sense, considering that its owner until now was a regatta sailor – speed, smooth maneuvering, and overall technical performance were must-haves for Grinover. His French superyacht can reach a top speed of 28 knots (32 mph/51.8 kph), much more than yachts in the same size category. At the same time, this speedy vessel can handle extended cruising without having to rely on infrastructure.

La Pellegrina is famously known for being able to cross the Atlantic in ten days. When lowering its speed to approximately half the maximum value, its range increases to 4,000 nautical miles (7,400 km).

Part of its impressive performance is owed to the modern materials used to build it. The Couach shipyard is known for its great work with modern composite materials, and La Pellegrina is no exception. It boasts a GRP gull and superstructure with reinforced Kevlar carbon. Kevlar is one of the most successful composites in the maritime industry, prized for its strength and rigidity, coupled with light weight.

Accommodation-wise, this spacious floating mansion has enough room for up to 12 guests.

The 2012 high-speed superyacht was recently sold in-house, so its ultimate price wasn’t disclosed. Yet, we know that last year, when it entered the market, it was asking for $17 million. Even after finding a new owner, La Pellegrina will continue to operate as a luxury charter yacht, with weekly rates starting at $250,000.
