With the soaring house prices in many parts of the world, more and more people are giving up on their dream of a full-sized home and considering going tiny to increase their chances at homeownership. The small living movement is booming in Australia, where the climate and lifestyle perfectly lend themselves to tiny house living.

Tiny Mobile Australia is one of the most passionate local builders offering affordable modular dwellings and tiny houses to those who are looking to downsize their footprint and upgrade their lives. The Joey model is a budget-friendly tiny house on wheels with a quality, eco-friendly design, and a luxurious open-floor layout.

The Brisbane-based tiny home manufacturer was founded three years ago by co-owners Eddie Davies and Joe Chan, who aimed to offer an affordable and eco-friendly housing solution to those struggling to find quality abodes on tight budgets. The proficient team has already crafted over 100 mobile tiny homes and shipped them all around the country.

The Joey is the latest addition to the company’s portfolio and measures 7.5 meters (24.6 feet) by 2.5 meters (8.2 feet). Suited for an individual or a couple and priced starting from $85,000, this gorgeous compact dwelling offers not only a cost-effective and simplified living solution but also a chance to achieve personal and financial freedom.

It is built on a double-axle trailer and equipped with solar panels, allowing future owners to take their mobile home with them wherever life takes them. With a comfortable sleeping space, ample storage, a well-kitted-out kitchen, and decent bathroom amenities, this mobile dwelling is ideal for those looking for an escape from the ordinary and wish to start their journey towards sustainable living.

It features a sleek, modern exterior clad in hardwood, and a deck can be attached to the outside for the residents who want to expand their living space and enjoy the great outdoors. The panels for both the external and internal walls of the tiny home are made from BlueScope steel. These panels, supplied by Bondor – a local thermal building solutions company, are lightweight, cost-effective, and have “great thermal properties” to suit the Australian climate.

The interior is defined by openness and a neutral color palette, providing a calm and relaxing atmosphere. It’s just the right setting to recharge after a long day. The entire space is flooded with natural light, which further adds to the tranquil ambiance.

The simple, open-concept design not only makes the space really flexible but also gives it a modern look. It is a great way to fully maximize the available square footage and create a continuous, uninterrupted flow inside the home. With no divisive walls (except the bathroom wall) or awkward hallways taking up space and a plethora of windows throughout, the residents are able to enjoy the vistas from every corner of their house.

Premium materials and modern amenities abound inside the Joey model, with all the timber products made by another Australian company called Weathertex using just two ingredients: eucalyptus hardwood and paraffin wax.

The front sliding glass doors open up to reveal a minimalist kitchen area with a couple of cabinets, a bench top, and open overhead shelves. Granite countertops and LED lights give a luxurious feel to the cooking space. In terms of functionality, it comes with a sink, a refrigerator, and a microwave. There is no stove or cooktop in sight, but the integrated power outlets mean the owners can equip it with additional appliances, including an electric cooktop.

The kitchen counter ends with a benchtop that can fit a chair underneath. It is a multipurpose area that the owners can use as both a workstation and a dining spot.

Next up is the lounge area with enough space for a couch bed, a long bench opposite it, and a wall-mounted television overhead. At the very end of the house is the sleeping space, fitted with a queen-size bed with plenty of underneath space for storage. The windows surrounding the bed allow for beautiful views of the surroundings.

As any modern tiny house, Joey also comes with a fully functional bathroom. It is spacious enough to fit a shower cabin, a vanity sink with a huge mirror above it, and a toilet. A barn-style door provides privacy while using the facilities.

Besides solar panels, the Joey tiny home can be outfitted with additional off-grid features, like a composting toilet, electric water heater, and other upgraded amenities for an additional price tag.

With its minimalist charm and open floor layout, the Joey tiny home would also lend itself well for use as an Airbnb rental or vacation home. It would fit just perfectly in a serene location, nestled amidst nature. The design can also serve as inspiration for those who want to learn how to use space wisely in order to craft functional, comfortable, and beautiful compact dwellings.
