Dermot O’Leary was left in hysterics after Alison Hammond made an accidental sexual innuendo live on air.

Alison, 48, confused a hump day – for ‘hump week’.

The favourite duo put on a typically funny display on Wednesday’s episode of This Morning as the Big Brother star confused ‘hump day’ – which means the halfway point in a typical work week, with ‘hump week’ with the word ‘hump’ used to describe sex in that context.

‘Welcome back to your Wednesday’s this morning. It’s hump week!’ she quipped excited turning to Dermot, 50.

As if that wasn’t enough hilarious, the host repeated: ‘It’s hump week. Can you believe it?’

Dermot appeared in confusion as he corrected her and said: ‘Is it hump day?’ as Alison immediately corrected herself and said ‘It’s hump day, sorry!’

Hilarious: Alison said 'it's hump week' rather than 'hump day' - Hump week sounds like she is describing a week of sexual activity, while hump day means the middle of the working week

But the former X-Factor host was already in stitches, as he couldn’t contain the laugh.

‘Hump week, hump day. It’s the same thing,’ Alison poked fun as she was also in hysterics.

On Monday, Alison responded to a fan who accused her of wearing a Rolex on the morning show  amid the cost of living crisis.

The presenter took to Twitter to respond to the concerned viewer as she told them that the jewellery was actually a watch her late mother had bought her.

The person had penned: ‘I love watching @AlisonHammond but with the cost of living affecting us all, I find it uncomfortable seeing her wearing, what looks like a Rolex.’

However, Alison quickly quipped: ‘I wish!!

‘It’s actually a Micheal Kors Watch my late mum bought me and it cost her £185 of her hard earned money . It means more to me than any Rolex. Sorry you felt uncomfortable.’

Alison’s beloved mother Maria, who was from Guyana, tragically died in January 2020 from lung and liver cancer.

Fans were quick to defend Alison with some claiming she didn’t need to ‘justify’ herself.

One person replied: ‘I don’t get these posts. Alison didn’t have to explain to anyone. If she had been wearing a Rolex what business is it of yours. Alison works very hard and she can wear what she likes. Is it jealousy?’

Another added: ‘Cost of living or not don’t apologise my darling even if you had bought a Rolex what you do with your hard earned cash is up to you but what a lovely gift to have from your mum I wish I had a keepsake to treasure from my mum but i have memories.’

It comes after Dermot came close to revealing rather more about his personal life than he wanted to during Monday’s edition of This Morning.

The presenter was put on the spot after co-host Alison made a cheeky quip following a segment about Britain’s looming bed bug crisis.

On hand to discuss the dramatic rise in infestations across the United Kingdom, Hammond was quick to respond after Dermot – who is married to Danish producer Dee Koppang – complained about the prospect of being bitten by the critters while in bed.

‘Maybe it’s your wife… you never know,’ she joked. Recovering quickly, he replied: ‘Have you been talking to her?’

Their exchange lightened the mood after viewers slammed the show for bringing sniffer dogs better used to rooting out illegal substances onto the studio floor in search of potential bed bugs.

Taking to X, one disgruntled fan wrote: ‘Normally, dogs can detect drugs, but bed bugs! WTH?’

Echoing that sentiment, a second joked: ‘No drugs here Mr officer it’s just bed bugs.’

While a third, sharing a meme that suggested show producers had lost their minds, added: ‘Sniffer dogs to find bed bugs!’

Alison appeared to be getting her own back on Dermot after he made her tell This Morning viewers what she really did with a found £20 note after pretending she gave it to charity.

The presenters were hosing a segment about unexpected moments of happiness during Friday’s show when Alison claimed she had found a £20 note on the ground and immediately donated it to charity, but it turned out that wasn’t the whole truth.

She said: ‘I was walking, I looked at the floor and I was like ‘That looks like a £20 note’. It was. I picked it up and I donated it to charity.’

The former X Factor presenter looked suspiciously at his co-host on the ITV1 daytime show, as he spilled the real facts to viewers at home.

‘She went to the charity shop and she bought a handbag for £15. For charity. And she kept the £5,’ he said.

Alison confirmed the allegations were true and confessed that after spending £15 in a charity shop, she spent the change elsewhere, adding: ‘And I did buy some sweets with that…’

Alison has been a mainstay on the programme since first finding fame on Big Brother in 2002.

She fronted the competition segments for more than a decade and then began to interview Hollywood superstars like Britney Spears and The Rock for the programme.

But since the departure of regular Friday hosts Ruth Langsford and Eammonn Holmes in 2021, she and O’Leary have become regular presenters on the series, along with Josie Gibson and Craig Doyle.
