Luxury vehicles come at a cost, and that’s not always the price tag attached to them. While you might be in the market for a classy ride this year, do not be fooled into thinking that just because an automobile is described as “luxury” that it’s equal to all others. After all, you will most likely be spending a lot of money to get the latest model, perhaps even thinking of it as an investment that will accrue over time.

GOBankingRates tapped some automotive experts to get their opinions on 10 luxury cars that are not worth the investment in 2024.

Maserati Grecale

“Despite the Maserati name evoking images of Italian craftsmanship and high performance, the Grecale falls short in several areas,” said Emil Sultanov, founder of Long Term Car.

The interior quality does not match up to the high standards set by its competitors, and the infotainment system feels outdated, according to Sultanov.

“Additionally, the Grecale’s fuel efficiency is subpar, and the depreciation rate is alarmingly high, making it a poor investment,” he said.

BMW iX

“While the iX boasts an impressive electric range and cutting-edge technology, its high price and questionable styling choices leave much to be desired,” said Shawn Miller, senior writer at Modified Rides.

“The driving experience, though solid, doesn’t quite match the dynamic feel of traditional BMW models, making it a less exciting option for brand loyalists,” Miller explained.

Jaguar XF

“The Jaguar XF, while stylish and comfortable, struggles with reliability issues that can turn into costly repairs down the line,” Sultanov said.

Sultanov noted that the engine performance is also underwhelming compared with other luxury sedans in its class.

“The XF’s resale value is low, and with newer, more advanced models from other manufacturers, the XF fails to stand out,” Sultanov said.

Audi Q8 E-Tron

The Audi Q8 E-Tron promises luxury and electric efficiency but falls short in terms of range compared with competitors like the Tesla Model X, according to Miller.

“Its high cost and the lack of a significant improvement over the standard Q8 make it a less appealing option,” Miller said.

Land Rover Range Rover Velar

“The Range Rover Velar is visually striking and offers a smooth ride, but it is plagued by reliability concerns and high maintenance costs,” Sultanov explained.

“The infotainment system is not as intuitive as it should be, and the cargo space is limited for an SUV in this segment. Given these drawbacks, the Velar’s high price tag does not seem justified,” Sultanov said.

Lexus LX 600

“The LX 600 offers luxury and off-road capability, but its dated platform and mediocre fuel efficiency are significant drawbacks,” Miller said.

For the price, Miller advised potential car buyers that there are more versatile and economical 2024 options available on the market.

Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing

While the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing boasts impressive power and performance, Sultanov pointed out that its interior quality and technology features lag behind European competitors.

“The ride can be harsh, and the cabin noise levels are higher than expected for a vehicle in this price range,” Sultanov said. “Depreciation is also a concern, making it a less-than-ideal investment.”

Genesis G90

“The Genesis G90 offers luxury at a more affordable price point, but it lacks the brand prestige and advanced technology found in German rivals,” Sultanov said.

In Sultanov’s professional opinion, the driving experience is underwhelming, and the resale value is lower compared with that of other luxury sedans.

“Despite its attractive price, the G90 does not hold up well as a long-term investment,” Sultanov said.

Infiniti QX60

“The Infiniti QX60, while spacious and well-equipped, suffers from poor fuel economy and lackluster driving dynamics,” Sultanov explained.

“The interior materials feel cheap compared to other luxury SUVs, and the infotainment system is not as user-friendly,” Sultanov said, adding that these specific factors, combined with high depreciation rates, make the QX60 a less appealing choice for purchase.

Acura RLX

“The Acura RLX is a comfortable and reliable sedan, but it lacks the performance and technological advancements found in its competitors,” Sultanov said.

“The design is dated, and the infotainment system feels clunky,” Sultanov explained. “With many better options available in the luxury sedan market, the RLX does not represent a good investment.”
