The 2024 Acura TLX and Infiniti Q50 are luxury sedans that deliver plenty of value in a 5-seat premium vehicle with an eye-catching exterior.

Kicking off this comparison with the Acura TLX, this generation dates to the 2021 model year, and a 272-horsepower turbo 4-cylinder shuttles it down the road with ease. Vibrant driving dynamics and exemplary build quality are some of the things we’ve liked most during our time spent with the TLX.

Moving onward, the Infiniti Q50 hails back to the 2014 model year, an eternity in the automotive world. Does it stand a chance? Yes, this swift Infiniti sedan has a twin-turbo V6 available in two states of tune and a curvy shape that we think is aging well.  

Let’s examine some highlights of the Acura TLX and Infiniti Q50.

2024 Acura TLX

The 2024 TLX is available in three trims: Technology, A-Spec, and Type S. Pricing starts at $46,195, including destination fees. The base engine is a 272-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard on the base variant, and all-wheel drive comes with the two upper trims. 

Acura made a few notable changes to the TLX this model year. The front bumper has been redesigned, and a 12.3-inch infotainment screen is newly standard, as is leather upholstery and wireless charging. 

Acura TLX Highlights

Super Handling All-Wheel Drive: We love how Acura’s all-wheel drive hardware gives the TLX improved grip and greater agility when powering through tight twists and corners, in addition to better all-season traction. Standard on the A-Spec and Type S, it adds a whole extra layer to the TLX’s fun-to-drive nature.

Built to last: You work hard for your money, so it makes sense that you want a luxury vehicle to go the extra mile. The Acura TLX is known for being reliable and holding onto its value. 

Speedy Type S: Thanks to its 355-hp turbocharged V6 and AWD, the Type S is the one to pick for the performance fan. Accelerating from a standstill to 60 mph takes less than 5.0 seconds. 

GPS-linked climate control: Want your car to take charge and keep you comfortable in all sorts of weather? A GPS-linked climate control system uses a roof-mounted solar sensor and the navigation system to maintain comfy cabin temps. This clever item is standard on the Acura TLX A-Spec and Type S.

2024 Infiniti Q50

The 2024 Q50 rolls into another model year with no significant changes or notable updates. There are three trims – Luxe, Sensory, and Red Sport 400 – and pricing begins at $44,200, including the destination charge. 

Standard on the Luxe is a dual-screen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay, wired Android Auto, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, a moonroof, and a heated steering wheel. Infiniti also includes a comprehensive roster of driver aids in the Q50 at no additional cost. 

Infiniti Q50 Highlights

Twin-turbo V6: The twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 remains one of the Q50’s best-selling points. It’s smooth and serves up copious amounts of passing power whenever called upon. A 300-hp version of this engine is found in the Luxe and Sensory trim, whereas the Red Sport 400 features a (you guessed it!) 400-hp variant. The mighty Red Sport also comes with an adaptive suspension and upgraded brakes.

Standard features: If you’re not a fan of ticking option boxes, then the Q50 could be your ideal luxury sedan. It comes packed with features that will heat your seat, link your smartphone, or potentially avoid a fender-crunching accident. Some of the Q50’s many driver aids consist of blind-spot monitoring, a surround-view camera, rear cross-traffic assist, automatic high-beam headlights, adaptive cruise control, and rain-sensing wipers.  

Aging gracefully: Having been around for a decade, the Q50 is far from the freshest face in the luxury sedan segment. Its design is seven years older than the Acura TLX, but the Infiniti remains one of the nicer-looking vehicles out there. The fluid-looking exterior still looks sharp and makes several newer rivals look dowdy in comparison.

Similarities

The Acura TLX and Infiniti Q50 have much in common based purely on pricing and their overall dimensions. They also deserve credit for not gouging customers with features many luxury competitors frequently group into expensive option packages. 

Conclusion

The Infiniti Q50 remains competitive thanks to its powerful engines and generous comfort and safety features. But unless you’re feeling especially nostalgic, the Q50 is falling behind the times. A dated infotainment system and lack of steering feel are two of our primary criticisms. 

Don’t get us wrong, the Acura TLX is good but far from perfect. The touchpad controller for its infotainment system is quirky, and a simpler touchscreen would be a better solution. But compared to the aging Q50, the sharper and more modern Acura TLX emerges as the winner.
