On Sunday, November 26, Christie’s Hong Kong will host The Philippe & Elisabeth Dufour Foundation Charity Auction featuring a unique Simplicity timepiece made by the renowned watchmaker. This highly symbolic watch was specially created by Philippe Dufour to support his newly established charity, The Philippe & Elisabeth Dufour Foundation.
One of the most revered independent watchmakers of all time, Dufour has made only around 230 watches over the course of his life and career—all of them designed and crafted by hand with very little assistance. While most of his pieces are specially commissioned, he’s developed three of his own collections including the Grande & Petite Sonnerie minute repeater and Duality as well as the Simplicity. As the name suggests, the Simplicity is the simplest of Dufour’s creations both visually and technically. These time-only watches feature a pure and minimalist design with impeccable haute horlogerie finishing. The unique Simplicity that will go up for auction on November 26th features a 38 mm platinum case and a stunning blue aventurine dial.
In June of 2023, the living legend Philippe Dufour celebrated his 75th birthday at the Hôtel des Horlogers in the Vallée de Joux. This milestone event served as the perfect occasion for Dufour and his wife Elisabeth to announce the creation of their foundation. Its mission is to help address some of the world’s most pressing humanitarian needs, including access to food, water, healthcare, housing, education, and support for the environment. Today, the charity already has fundraising schemes in a number of different endeavors. With the piece unique estimated to sell for $1.5 million to $3 million and all proceeds of the sale donated directly to the Philippe & Elisabeth Dufour Foundation, the auction will help fund both current and future projects.
While The Philippe & Elisabeth Dufour Foundation Charity Auction will take place at Christie’s Hong Kong on November 26 at 6 p.m. local time, the sale will kick off at 6 a.m. Eastern time here in the States. For more information, visit Christie’s.
