A high-end designer dog leash can cost as much as $400, and a pooch carrying bag about $2,900.
From the luxury buyer to the average shopper, companies are increasingly investing in pet clothing and merchandise for all income levels.
Those who visit Prissy Paw Palace, 18900 Michigan Ave. Dearborn, can still dress their pup in stylish clothing, with or without the luxury price.
Prissy Paw Palace is one of Fairlane Town Center’s newest stores and it specializes in dog clothing for all sizes.
CEO and owner Brandi Ransburg, 44, said she first opened the store after leaving her corporate job and to heal herself.
“I had a lot of trauma throughout my life, but I always had pets,” she said. “When I went on this journey, it was for me. I needed to feel better and I knew pets were a really good way of doing that. I stopped working in corporate (and) I came up with this thing and I’ve been doing it now going on two years.”
One of the last dogs Ransburg had was the first pet she ever dressed up.
She said she would see people with pets with beautiful clothing on and thought it would be a great business idea.
Ransburg registered the business in December 2021 and opened the doors to her business in Twelve Oaks Mall in Novi in March 2022.
Although she anticipated opening in January, there was an initial delay in opening the business due to a family tragedy.
It caused her to consider not opening the store at all, but she persevered, she said.
The move from Twelve Oaks Mall to Fairlane Town Center evolved because of Ransburg’s clientele.
Ransburg said she thought she would attract more customers at Twelve Oaks Mall, but realized she actually received more support in Dearborn than in Novi.
“Coming here and receiving the support I knew I would get was worth the move,” said Ransburg. “We opened here in October 2022 and we’re going into our second year of business.”
Outside of Prissy Paws Palace, Ransburg is still quite busy.
She has four children and works in medical delivery for Henry Ford Health.
Prissy Paw Palace is a family-owned business and although she has no other employees, her children stand in and assist her when needed.
Inside the store, her products range from luxury brands to clothes with different seamstresses she’s found who are small business owners like herself.
Shoppers can find anything from dresses and handkerchiefs, to ties and outerwear.
“I consider it either luxury or couture,” said Ransburg. “Anything you can think of is here.”
Prissy Paw Palace has already garnered a lot of attention, Ransburg said.
She is so confident in the business and is exploring the concept of working with sponsors, believing the business could go national.
“This could be something really great for all 50 states,” said Ransburg. “If I could find the right investor who really knows how to get this thing to be bigger than what it is, because we’ve done an amazing job in the city.”
Currently, the hours of operation are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday for Prissy Paw Palace.
For the weekend, the store is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturdays, and noon to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
