India’s first Paralympic gold medalist Murlikant Petkar will be felicitated on December 3, at Raga Palace, Pimpri at an event organised by The Sport Climbing Association of Maharashtra.
Lt Gen Ajai Kumar Singh General Officer-Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of the Southern Command will attend the event.

The occasion is in the memory of the 51st anniversary of Petkar winning India’s first-ever Paralympic gold medal. Petkar won the gold in 50m freestyle swimming with a world record of 37.33 seconds, which he set in the 1972 Paralympics in Heidelberg, Germany.
The ceremony will see Petkar sharing his memories of Paralympic Gold. At the same event, Petkar also competed in javelin, precision javelin throw and slalom disciplines and was a finalist in all three of them.
Public health expert and epidemiologist Raman Gangakhedkar and and orthopaedic physician Kantilal H. Sancheti are also likely to attend the function.
