While Amazon boss Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez enjoy their time in Miami, their $500 million schooner, named Koru, is undertaking its own journey. This world-renowned sailing superyacht was recently seen in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, moored at the Yacht Haven Grande Marina. The 416-foot Oceanco marvel notably overshadows other vessels in the marina.
A comparison of the shared image with the marina’s map reveals that the Koru megayacht is docked near a fueling station, occupying berths A1 and A2 — spaces typically reserved for two motor yachts or possibly three. Accommodating the world’s tallest and most luxurious ship, with a volume of 3,300 GT, is a complex task. Previously, it was anchored alongside oil tankers at the Port of Everglades. The docking fees at Yacht Haven Grande Marina are $6.50 per foot per night, and as Koru seems to be taking up two docking spots it means centibillionaire Bezos is likely paying $5,000 or more a night as docking charges for Koru. After all the magnanimous sailing yacht is twice the length of an Airbus A380.
The docking charges are just the base, additional charges, such as power and water, add to the cost at rates of $0.50 per kW and $0.20 per gallon, respectively, further adding to the bill. The vessel, according to its latest position on Marine Traffic, is on the move again. It is currently sailing in the Caribbean Sea, in all probability, hunting for a spot to host Jeff and Lauren’s wedding.
