Three Different Trims For The ICE Versions Of The 2025 5 Series, Along With Two PHEV Versions

Following the long-running trend of luxury sedans, the ’24 BMW 5 Series comes with three different trim options for the ICE versions of the 5 Series. Each of these three trims is accompanied by a 48-volt hybrid system. The base-level trim for the ’24 5 Series, the 530i, comes equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine, managing to produce a respectable 255 horsepower. The slightly more expensive 530i xDrive trim for the ’24 5 Series features the same engine as its base 530i counterpart, but greatly benefits from the intelligent xDrive all-wheel-drive system.

If the 255 horsepower that the 530i models manage to produce isn’t quite a high enough number for you, the more powerful 540i xDrive trim should most definitely fill that void. Delivering 375 horsepower from its bigger 3.0-liter inline-six engine compared to the 530i’s inline-four, the 540i trim’s power output will provide hints of the almighty M5’s performance.

Regarding the speed of the three ICE trims of the ’24 5 Series, the 530i manages a 0–60 miles per hour time of 5.9 seconds, with the all-wheel-drive 530i trim slotting in just in front of a time of 5.8 seconds. Expectedly, the more powerful 540i reaches 60 miles an hour in just 4.4 seconds, managing to compete with the likes of Audi’s new RS7 model.

Regarding the technological advancements in the industry, it comes as no surprise that BMW has introduced two plug-in hybrid trims for the ’24 5 Series, the first time in the nameplate’s history. As with the ICE models, the 530e and the 550e xDrive PHEV trims differ, with the 299 horsepower-530e delivering more range (up to 62 miles), but is less powerful than the 550e xDrive which will produce 489 horsepower and deliver 56 miles of electric-only range. The 550e xDrive is the model that is coming to the U.S.A. in 2024, with the 530e continuing its production in Europe.

The Electric i5 Model

As well as the PHEV versions of the 5 Series, BMW is also expanding its electric vehicle range with the all-new i5 models. Two different trims are available for the i5, both producing different performance numbers. The i5 eDrive40 is the cheapest of the two trims, powered by a single electric motor producing 335 horsepower. However, it’s the i5 M60 trim that showcases the true capabilities of EVs, delivering a whopping 593 horsepower thanks to its dual electric motors instead of just one.

The i5 eDrive40 still manages to keep up with the ICE and PHEV versions of the ’24 5 Series, however, managing a 0–60 miles per hour speed of 5.7 seconds and an equal top speed of 130 MPH, although the ICE versions are limited to that speed. Moving up to the i5 M60, the performance specs dramatically improve, with the M60 trim propelling the mid-size sedan from 0–60 miles per hour in just 3.7 seconds. As for the range of the all-electric ’24 5 Series models, BMW claims the eDrive40 has a range of 270–295 miles, with the M60 trim managing a lesser 240–256 miles due to its focus on performance.

Four upholstery choices come at no extra cost, but the BMW Individual ‘Open Pore’ options add $600 to the overall price. The infotainment quality is as intuitive as it is with the 7 Series and iX SUV models, with the ’24 5 Series featuring the same 12.3-inch gauge display along with a 14.9-inch center touchscreen display.

Wagon To Join The ‘24 5 Series Lineup

How Much Does The ‘24 5 Series Cost?

Due to the many different variations of the ’24 5 Series that are available, the price differences can be sizable, especially when choosing from the plentiful selection of options. For the ICE versions of the 5 Series, the base 530i starts at $57,900, with the xDrive trim raising the starting price slightly to $60,700. The more powerful 540i xDrive once again raises the price to $64,900, which considering the performance benefits of this trim, makes it great value for money compared to the 540i models.

The 550e xDrive plug-in hybrid trim is more expensive than the ICE models, which is more than expected considering the big increase in technology and innovation.
