The iconic Mercedes E-Class sedan has seen a significant update for 2024, but it comes with a significant price boost.
The least-expensive E will start at $62,300 for 2024, Mercedes announced. That’s a substantial jump from the current model’s $56,750 starting point. It also places the new E-Class above the BMW 5 Series and Audi A6, its longtime German rivals.
Mercedes also charges a mandatory $1,150 to deliver the car.
A thorough set of updates for 2024 gives the E-Class sedan a new look, more curvaceous than the outgoing model, and a dramatic interior makeover. The car uses artificial intelligence to learn and accommodate its owners’ habits, setting entertainment and comfort functions based on the weather and driver behavior patterns.
The car’s array of screens — including the available dashboard-spanning Hyperscreen — can run apps like a smartphone. Driver-facing cameras let you attend Zoom meetings behind the wheel (when parked).
Power options include a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine making 255 horsepower and a turbo 6-cylinder making 375 — both paired with mild-hybrid technology. Mercedes’ 4Matic all-wheel-drive system is standard.
But all that technology comes at a cost.
