The MRA Marg police are on the lookout for three members of a Delhi-based women’s gang which targeted a high-end store of luxury occasion wear for women in the Kalaghoda area of south Mumbai and stole an outfit worth Rs 1.34 lakh.
Though the incident took place almost a month ago, the CCTV footage of the incident recently came to the fore and shows how the gang steals expensive designer clothes from high-end stores. So far, the gang has targeted three such stores in Mumbai. According to police, the gang first targeted Label Naibah, a high-end store of luxury occasionwear for women at Apeejay House in Kala Ghoda run by Naionica Bahl Netarwala, a resident of Cuffe Parade.
According to the complaint lodged with police, around 3pm on April 7, four women entered a store under the pretext of buying some clothes. They saw a few clothes but left the store without buying anything. In the evening, when the store staff were checking the stock of clothes, they found a light pink gown worth Rs 1.34 lakh missing.
“We checked the entire store and also searched our workshop, but the gown was nowhere to be found. We then checked the footage of the CCTV cameras and found one of the four women, who posed as customers, entered the store around 3pm and stole the gown,” said Naionica.
She took the gown off the rack and hid it inside the dress she was wearing along with the hanger, added Naionica. The other two women gave cover to the woman who stole the gown while a fourth member of their gang kept the sales executives busy by engaging in conversation. After a while, all four of them left the store.
After detecting the theft in the CCTV camera, Naionica approached MRA Marg police and filed a complaint.
During investigation, the police found the accused women came to Mumbai in a four-wheeler, and after committing theft at the South Bombay store, they targeted other stores in the western suburbs. One of the accused women, Rajbala Rocky, was arrested and the police recovered the stolen gown from her. “We police are looking for other gang members,” said a police officer.
