Owners of an extremely rare $3 million (£2,365,000) “hypercar” face a huge bill to keep their luxury motors running, it has been reported.

With fewer than 300 models ever made, Aston Martin’s Valkyrie is one of the rarest and most expensive cars on the market.

But there are drawbacks to owning a vehicle designed like a Formula One racing car.

Servicing the Valkyrie could cost $450,000 (£355,000) over three years, according to report by Bloomberg.

The car, which has a 0 to 60 mph time of only 2.5 seconds, requiring motor-sport engineers to maintain it.

It far exceeds the upkeep cost of other hypercars – a form of supercar released on a limited scale – like the Bugatti Chiron and Bugatti Veyron.

A more affordable service plan of $340,000 over three years is also available, according to a customer email seen by Bloomberg News.

An Aston Martin spokesman said cheaper service plans were available depending on the needs of the customer.

“We offer a range of highly specialised service plans for the car, aligned to the bespoke requirements and specific usage of our Valkyrie customers,” they told Bloomberg in a statement.

The car is named after the Norse mythological figures

The British car company limited the Valkyrie to 150 coupe versions as well as 85 open-top Spider versions, which have detachable roofs, and 40 of the track-only AMR Pro variant, which are not legal on roads.

Designs for the car, which is named after the Norse mythological figures who guide the souls of fallen soldiers, were first released in 2017 but its launch was delayed repeatedly due to electronics issues.

The first deliveries were not made to customers until 2021 and the cars are still in production.

All models have already been allocated to customers so there are none for sale.

It is not known how many have been bought by UK customers but English supercar dealer Tom Hartley Jnr reportedly owned one in 2022.

The cars have been produced in partnership with Red Bull Racing, a Formula One team, whose chief technical officer Adrian Newey, known as one the world’s most successful F1 designers, pitched in with the design.

Hypercars make up less than one per cent of the UK car market. They are exclusive, expensive, and fast.

The Valkyrie is suited to fast-track driving with the necessary amount of down force to round corners and bends at high speeds.
