HotCars’ Best Electric Car Of 2024: Porsche Taycan
The Taycan proves that even after almost four years on the market it can still win our votes for the HotCars’ best electric car. Here’s why.
What’s New For 2025?
There’s no mistaking the Taycan being a Porsche from any angle. The EV adopts Porsche’s current sedan design motif, which is showcased by its thin headlamps with the signature four LED running lights housed within. A front bumper that lacks a usual grille is an easy way to tell the Taycan is, in fact, an EV. Overall, the front end takes on a low-slung appearance and is somewhat reminiscent of the current Porsche 911. Down its sides, it does start to look more and more 911-ish. It looks as though Porsche took one, stretched it, and added rear doors. The rear end adopts a similarly simple look to the front end, with just a couple of smooth curves and a single, thin LED tail light spanning the width of its backside.
2025 Highlights
- Upgrades standard and performance batteries
- Cleverly-designed, updated electric motors offer more power while also being lighter
- Faster charging times
- Apple CarPlay+ now integrated into the Taycan’s infotainment system
- Battery state-specific navigation

Porsche employs a two-speed dog-ring gearbox on all Taycan grades, with all-wheel drive iterations also receiving a single-speed front-mounted gearbox as well. Because of the large differences in power between our six powertrain configurations, 0-60 MPH times vary from 5.1 seconds on the base model to a blistering 2.6 seconds on the top-end Turbo S grade. The Taycan is the most aerodynamically-inclined Porsche ever produced, with a drag coefficient of just 0.22 with optional air suspension equipped.
Only two battery options are available to choose from, ranging from the standard 79.2 kWh net battery pack to the 93.4 kWh performance battery pack, which is optional in the base and 4S models and standard across all others. Electric fuel economy, or MPGe, varies from 85 MPGe in the base Taycan to 75 MPGe in the tire-shredding Turbo S model. For those who wish for a more dynamic driving experience, you can opt for one of two Porsche brake upgrades. Porsche’s Active Suspension Management system is standard across all Taycan grades, which can be independently adjusted to suit whatever driving surface you find yourself on.

Interior Technology And Comfort
Best Interior Features Of The 2025 Porsche Taycan
- Comfortable yet sporty interior
- Optional 14-way power front seats with massage
- Tons of color and material customization options
- Optional Quad-Zone climate control
- Standard seating for four, optional seating for five
The Taycan’s cockpit is deliberately set up to mimic a performance car, with a commanding driving position and a low driver’s seat. While this low-slung seating arrangement can be a trifle difficult to lower yourself into if you’re on the taller side. Once you’ve sat down, it’s a very nice place to be.
Porsche allows for seemingly infinite interior customizations, offering a wide array of color schemes, materials, and optional tech as well. The Taycan comes standard with seating for four passengers, but that can be upgraded to seating for five if need be. Heating rear seats, four-zone climate control, and a heated steering wheel are among the most commonly selected options. Cargo room and rear seat room are a bit smaller than competing models.
Technology
The Taycan is a techie’s dream, sporting up to three different screens. The main screen mounted at the center of the dashboard is a 10.9-inch LCD, capable of AppleCarPlay+ and Android Auto, navigation, and Bluetooth, among others. The second screen is an 8.4-inch display mounted on the center console, where things like climate control and heated seats are taken care of. Optionally, you can have another 5.9-inch screen mounted in the second row, so your backseat passengers can control their half of the quad-zone climate control.

Safety And Reliability

The fastest electric car from Korea, the Kia EV6 GT, is not only faster than a Porsche Taycan GTS, but also many other sports cars.
Warranties
As far as the Taycan’s warranty is concerned, Porsche uses a 4-year/50,000-mile structure, which covers most components, including powertrain and airbags. An EV component warranty covers electric parts and other aspects for eight years or 100,000 miles to help alleviate some of the anxieties that come with EV ownership. Roadside assistance is included for the same duration as the full warranty. Seat belts are covered for life, and maintenance coverage is available at an extra cost, though with an EV it may not be worth the money, seeing as there isn’t much to do regarding maintenance.

2025 Porsche Taycan Versus Its Competitors
The 2025 Taycan has its work cut out for it when it comes to competition. The luxury EV sedan market is becoming more and more flooded and homogenized, so an automaker needs to make their entrant stand out in some way. So, to see how our Taycan does just that, we’re going to compare it to a couple of its biggest rivals below: the Tesla Model S and the BMW i5.
How The Porsche Taycan Compares To The Tesla Model S
-
2025 Porsche Taycan 2024 Tesla Model S Engine/Motor Single Rear / Dual Front & Rear Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor(s) Dual Electric Motors Horsepower 402 HP / 469 HP / 522 HP / 562 HP / 670 HP / 750 HP 670 HP – 1,020 HP Torque 254 LB-FT / 263 LB-FT / 472 LB-FT / 479 LB-FT / 626 LB-FT / 774 LB-FT N/A – 1,050 LB-FT Drivetrain RWD / AWD AWD Transmission 2-Speed Dog-Ring Rear / 1-Speed Front Single-Speed Direct Drive Range 208 Miles / 242 Miles / 206 Miles / 235 Miles / 238 Miles / 222 Miles 396 Miles – 405 Miles MSRP From $101,395 From $74,990 0-60 MPH 5.1 Seconds / 3.8 Seconds / 3.0 Seconds / 2.6 Seconds 2.4 Seconds – 3.1 Seconds Power Output 79.2 kWh / 93.4 kWh 100 kWh
Arguably, the most iconic EV sedan is the Model S, courtesy of American EV giant Tesla. Its styling is seemingly synonymous with EVs today, as almost anyone can pick a Tesla out in a crowded parking lot. The Taycan has its own unique styling, too. But how else do these two stack up against one another?
For starters, the Model S is vastly cheaper than its German counterpart, coming in at $74,990 compared to the Porsche’s $101,395. You also get a lot more power at that base price along with over 150 more miles of driving range. There’s no doubt that Porsche as a brand has more heritage and experience building cars, but with a price as low as the Tesla, which also boasts more power, range, and a faster 0-60 MPH time, it’s very difficult to argue the case for the Taycan here.
How The Porsche Taycan Compares To The BMW i5
-
2025 Porsche Taycan 2024 BMW i5 Engine/Motor Single Rear / Dual Front & Rear Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor(s) Single or Dual Electric Motors Horsepower 402 HP / 469 HP / 522 HP / 562 HP / 670 HP / 750 HP 335–593 HP Torque 254 LB-FT / 263 LB-FT / 472 LB-FT / 479 LB-FT / 626 LB-FT / 774 LB-FT 295–605 LB-FT Drivetrain RWD / AWD RWD, AWD Transmission 2-Speed Dog-Ring Rear / 1-Speed Front Single-Speed Automatic Range 208 Miles / 242 Miles / 206 Miles / 235 Miles / 238 Miles / 222 Miles 240–295 Miles MSRP From $101,395 $66,800–$84,100 0-60 MPH 5.1 Seconds / 3.8 Seconds / 3.0 Seconds / 2.6 Seconds 3.7–5.7 Seconds
Next up is a domestic rival for the Taycan, the BMW i5 electric sedan. The engineers at Bavarian Motor Works have been hard at work over the last few years concocting their EVs, and making sure they’re able to compete with those at a slightly higher price point. This means the i5 is pointed squarely at the Porsche Taycan.
Both entrants sport rear-wheel and all-wheel drive options. The Beamer just slightly edges ahead when it comes to range but can’t put up the power numbers the Porsche can at higher grades, with only 593 horsepower to show to the Taycan’s 750 horsepower maximum. While the Porsche is, in fact, more expensive, the price difference is made up for when you factor in how much more EV you’re getting with the Taycan, which takes the win here, if you can afford it, of course.

Why You Should Buy The 2023 Audi E-Tron GT Over The Porsche Taycan 4S
The Porsche Taycan 4S is a German giant in the EV space. But the Audi e-Tron GT 4S offers a better range and interior package at a lower price.
Is It Worth Buying Porsche Taycan?
Any and every Porsche model comes with an air of excitement and grounded exuberance, even if you’re not a gearhead. The Taycan is no exception, with its sharp looks and tasteful interior. While it lacks some things about performance, it’s still a great luxury EV sedan.
With that being said, we can tentatively say yes, it is worth buying. The 2025 Taycan is expensive and doesn’t have the best range, but it’s able to beat most competitors at base level for a little bit more money, save for the Model S, which is the one that deserves the most of your attention.
