Jay Aberdoni is bringing minimalist design to the high seas.

The Spanish designer, who worked at Alberto Mancini Yacht Design before starting his eponymous studio, just unveiled a new megayacht concept with a daringly simple silhouette. “This design was conceived to capture that classic elegance that yachting is all about,” Aberdoni told Robb Report in an email.

Christened Day One, the new 239-footer evokes the minimalist creations of the 1960s and ‘70s. Artists, designers, and architects of the minimalism movement focused on an extreme simplicity of form, favoring basic geometric shapes and clean lines. Aberdoni has taken the same approach with Day One, creating a geometrical paradox that sees concentric circles contrasted by long, horizontal lines. “Every surface is a sublime expression of confidence and style, which is only suited for the nonconformists,” the designer adds.

Aberdoni has erased almost all boundaries on board, too. The vessel is equipped with low bulwarks that are glass in some sections and retractable sliding doors that help create one, large open-plan living space. The layout flows inside and out, vertically and horizontally, ensuring seafarers can access all rooms with ease.

Speaking of rooms, Day One is outfitted with six cabins that can sleep up to 11 guests. The show-stopping owner’s suite features a dedicated bow terrace with a Jacuzzi and infinity lounge. Other interior highlights include a plush cinema and a swanky upper-deck dining area.

More fun features can be found at the stern. The tender garage is hidden behind a series of wooden slats that slide away when you want access. In addition, the transom and side terraces can fold out to create additional waterside relaxation areas. To top it off, the main deck sports a giant pool and the aft beach club is fitted with a gym and spa.

Aberdoni told Robb Report there is no propulsion system yet defined for Day One, which means prospective owners could opt for Diesel, hybrid, or electric.

Aberdoni, who has been in the industry for around a decade, previously unveiled the 272-foot megayacht Dust, the 236-foot superyacht Posterity, and the 262-foot explorer Prelude. All his creations proudly display pirate flags at the stern, which is one of the designer’s signatures. Day One has at least one maximalist touch, then.
