The yacht manufacturing sector in Germany stands in the shadow of other leading industries, such as the automotive industry. However, German shipbuilders are in a worldwide leading position, and the country’s maritime cluster remains of strategic and symbolic importance.

One of the resounding names in the local shipbuilding and trading industry is Drettmann Yachts, represented on the world’s oceans with the “Elegance” line of sport yachts and the “Bandido” brand of one-off explorer yachts. The latest addition to the shipyard’s explorer range is a 164-foot (49.9-meter) custom luxury vessel that can be tailored to its future owner’s needs and preferences.

The new project, simply called the Bandido B-50, is designed for long-range cruising, with a special focus on delivering the right balance between sea performance and exceptional liveaboard comfort.

With a beam of 30.5 feet (9.3 meters), the B-50 offers a volume of 499 GT and integrates all the modern comforts needed for lengthy, transoceanic voyages, including generous al-fresco areas for socializing and entertainment, luxurious living quarters, and ample storage solutions.

A standout feature of the new explorer yacht is the multi-purpose aft deck area, which is designed with flexibility in mind. It houses a 20-foot (6-meter) freshwater pool and plenty of loose furniture pieces, creating a nice setup for guests to connect to the ocean and make the most of anchorages. During cruising, however, the pool can convert into a touch and go helipad or even stow a tender boat. The aft deck also has fold-out bulwarks that extend the relaxation and lounging area.

Other notable recreational amenities include a sheltered outdoor cinema with a large U-shaped sofa and a massive screen at the rear of the upper deck, a gym with a fold-out balcony on the lower deck, and a side garage that can house a chase boat, a Jet Ski, and other water sports equipment.

In terms of accommodation, the B-50 will be able to host as many as 12 guests across six luxurious staterooms. The owner of the yacht will benefit from a private deck that takes up the entire upper floor and is designed as an oasis of peace and relaxation. It includes a master cabin with breathtaking 270-degree views, a Jacuzzi, and a private lounge on the foredeck.

In terms of power, the new project will be equipped with a hybrid diesel-electric propulsion system with VETH PODs that will endow it with a maximum speed of 14 knots. In terms of range, the vessel will be able to travel 4,500 nautical miles (7,240 km) at a cruising speed of 10 knots. According to the yard, the Bandido B-50 explorer yacht will also offer a smooth, quiet ride and exceptional maneuverability.

According to the yard, “At the heart of Project B-50 is an ethos of exploration, embodied in the motto ‘Built to Explore.’ This mantra encapsulates the spirit of adventure and discovery that drives every aspect of this remarkable vessel.”

The Bremen-based Drettmann Yachts was founded in 1970, but it only started building its own yachts about 20 years ago. Since then, it has delivered 25 explorers between 95 and 170 feet (29 and 52 meters), built in cooperation with leading shipyards worldwide.
