Bonhams to Offer Two Paul Newman Daytonas at Auction in October – Robb Report

When it comes to some of the most highly coveted watches from The Crown, the Paul Newman Daytonas remain at the top of the list. The legendary actor and racer brought fame to the iconic model, adding a special provenance to the Daytona that is largely unmatched. For Rolex collectors, having a Paul Newman in your collection is a rite of passage, and this October, two will be up for grabs at Bonhams’ upcoming auctions in New York and Paris.

This year marks the monumental 60^th anniversary of the Rolex Daytona, and what better way to celebrate the occasion than by bringing two exceptional variations to auction? The first will hit the auction block on October 12 in New York for the Fine Watches sale. This Rolex Cosmograph Daytona “Paul Newman” Ref. 6239 is from 1965. However, the 6239 was in fact the first iteration of the Daytona to be released in 1963 and debuted the highly sought-after exotic cream dial. This particular variation was only produced in limited quantities and is expected to fetch up to a quarter million dollars at Bonhams’ upcoming sale.

The second Paul Newman Daytona heading to auction is a reference 6241 from 1968. This model will go under the hammer at Bonhams’ Fine Watches and Chronographs Auction on October 18. The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona “Paul Newman” Ref. 6241 is a manual wind chronograph in stainless steel with an exotic dial and is consistently one of the most sought-after timepieces by watch collectors. It is also expected to sell for well over a quarter million dollars next month.
