Comparing this particular tiny home with a mini-mansion would not be an exaggeration; the Salish Retreat has all the qualities of a luxury mansion, including flawless aesthetics and perfect spaciousness, combined with the benefits of a tiny home. With the summer season kicking off, gorgeous vacation homes like these seem more tempting than ever.

This eye-catching home with a vibrant blue exterior looks truly stunning at the lakefront; it may be tiny compared to a conventional vacation home, but that doesn’t stop it from flaunting luxury retreat vibes. That was its intended purpose back in 2016 when it was completed. It was one of the earliest versions of the Salish, one of the most popular designs created by West Coast Homes.

Washington residents are lucky to have one of the oldest, most reputable tiny home builders in their midst. Long before the tiny living revolution, Faber Construction was already a respected custom house builder with roots going back to the ’80s. In 2011, West Coast Homes was launched as a separate residential division, and just a few years later, it started including tiny homes in its portfolio.

With such an impressive construction background, it’s no surprise that this Washington-based company rose to the top very quickly. In one decade, it has successfully completed more than 50 tiny homes delivered primarily to customers in the top northwest corner of Washington State but also throughout the State.

The 2016 Salish Retreat is a beautiful rendition of the builder’s Salish design that still looks fresh and contemporary. As a 32-foot-long (9.7-meter) model, it feels anything but tiny, lavishly boasting 400 square feet (37 square meters) of floorspace. The ingenious, modern design makes it feel even more spacious than its actual size and perfectly comfortable for up to six guests.

The Salish Retreat is a park model, meaning it was built in accordance with the recreational park trailer code. All of this builder’s park models are built following the ANSI 119.5 Recreational Park Trailer Standards criteria and are inspected by Washington State Labor & Industries.

They come on custom chassis trailers and are designed to be easily transported to their future location. Still, they are not as compact as the tiny homes designed to be regular travel companions. On the one hand, they offer the advantage of greater spaciousness; on the other hand, their mobility is limited (typically, just a one-time journey to the final location).

What makes the Salish Retreat instantly stand out is the extensive glazing that gives it a very modern, sophisticated look. Far from a rustic wooden cabin, this vacation home invites the outdoors in through a clever mix of features that enhance its openness. The living room is truly spectacular: ten-foot (three-meter) ceilings and numerous floor-to-ceiling windows turn it into a dreamy oasis right in the middle of nature.

This living room is practically surrounded by panoramic views, which create an immersive experience – perfect for a vacation home where the goal is to connect with nature. It also creates an abundance of natural light and fresh air that visually expands the living spaces further. Floor-to-ceiling windows also add a sense of transparency that makes the Salish Retreat look very modern. Together with a minimalist interior design and a neutral color palette, it results in timeless elegance.

Both the living room and the L-shaped kitchen are part of an open-concept layout that maximizes spaciousness. There’s no formal separation between them, but an elegant kitchen island/dining table elegantly marks the transition area. This custom-made piece of furniture is not only elegant but also highly versatile due to its mobility; it comes on wheels and is big enough to function either as an island or a generous dining table. When the owners need extra room for a get-together or anything else, they can simply tuck this rolling unit away, which saves a lot of space without sacrificing functionality.

In addition to the classic living room setup, there’s enough space to add a fireplace that would make the ambiance even cozier. There’s also a clever, compact nook right by the entrance for convenient storage. The gorgeous living room was fitted with its own separate entrance that leads into the patio.

The Salish Retreat boasts two formal bedrooms, although the living room can also be configured as a temporary sleeping area. The master bedroom is discretely placed towards the end of the house for extra privacy and quiet. It offers all the benefits of a traditional ground-floor bedroom, including enough space for a queen-sized bed and a generous closet. The loft above it is wonderfully airy and luminous, with a full-length barrier that keeps it open thanks to the open-work structure.

This loft was primarily intended as a kids’ room; it can easily fit two small beds and still offers plenty of floorspace for the kids to play and move around easily. Two large windows keep the room filled with sunlight and properly ventilated. Access is also safe enough due to the solid staircase with a full handrail. The staircase was designed to be steeper than a conventional one so that it could incorporate storage compartments, including a dedicated nook for the washer/dryer unit.

Pricing for the standard Salish park model starts at $165,000 without shipping. A beautiful custom version like the Salish Retreat will increase the cost considerably, but it’s worth it for a truly luxurious tiny home built by a company with an extensive construction background. At the very least, this custom tiny is a wonderful source of inspiration for anyone looking to start their tiny living adventure.
