A man claimed he was a scam victim — but he’s the one who ended up in prison after threatening murder Saturday, according to Maricopa Police Department.

Robert Wyatt, 43, said he bought a fake Rolex for $5,000 and arranged to buy another one as a part of a “ruse.” But cops said he pulled a gun on the supposed counterfeiter, according to a probable cause statement obtained by InMaricopa.

Police responded to the parking lot between McDonald’s and Dignity Health Urgent Care along John Wayne Parkway around 2:30 p.m. Officers found the two men behind the urgent care.

After his jeweler told him the Rolex he bought was counterfeit, Wyatt set up the “ruse” to get his money back at gunpoint, according to the probable cause statement.

When the watch dealer told Wyatt he did not have the money, Wyatt reportedly brandished a handgun and said he would “put a bullet in his head.”

Wyatt first denied pulling the gun, but later admitted it to police. He reportedly said the thought of killing the alleged victim ran through his mind.

Police lodged a felony charge of weapons misconduct against Wyatt and two misdemeanor charges for lying and making threats.

Wyatt faces two and a half years in prison.
