The founder of Binance, Changpeng Zhao (aka CZ), recently shared valuable investment insights on the Reachme platform.
CZ and his Investment Philosophy
Zhao took to X to discuss his straightforward approach to investing, focusing on execution over creativity and emphasizing the importance of sticking to ‘fundamentals’. These insights were a response of one of the mails that he received, under the title “Proposal for a Revolutionary Asset Tokenization Model”.
Zhao, who is known for his pragmatic business strategies, responded saying , “I stay away from fancy models. And I never buy ideas. Ideas are worthless. Execution is key. ” He revealed three key investment principles that have guided his success:
Focus on Fundamentals: Zhao advises against getting distracted by elaborate business models or flashy ideas. Instead, he recommends prioritizing core fundamentals, for instance, product quality, user growth, revenue, profit, and the strength of the team—when evaluating investments.
Long-Term Bet i.e., Buy Early and Hold: According to Zhao, early-stage investments often yield the most important returns. Even though some failures are inevitable, they are part of the journey. The key is to hold on for the long term, as companies like Amazon and Google only reach their full potential with time. Moreover, CZ believes that short-term setbacks, e.g., the Terra crash, should not discourage investors from their long-term vision.
Invest in Mission-focused Founders: Zhao stresses upon the importance of supporting teams with an objective that transcends profit. CZ added that companies led by mission-driven individuals are more likely to create lasting, impactful businesses. In contrast, founders motivated solely by financial gain may lose focus after achieving moderate success.
Zhao mentioned that these insights are excerpted from his upcoming book that provides a detailed picture of his investment philosophy.
