A number of celebrities and businessmen, including the relatives of ex-Chief Executive Tung Chee-Hwa, were suspected of occupying public land or other unauthorized construction around their detached houses in Redhill Peninsula.

According to local media reports, the people involved included the chairman of the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation Sunny Chai Ngai-chiu; Tung Chee-Hwa’s niece Daphne King Yao and her husband Michael Yao Yuen Jen; and the fourth-generation steward of the famous Lee Kum Kee sauce business family Eddy Lee Wai-man and David Lee Wai-hung.

The Buildings Department and Lands Department said the removal orders and warnings have been issued to those owners as their luxury houses were found to have unauthorized building works and illegal occupation of government land upon inspection.

The orders were also delivered to the Land Registry for registration against the relevant property titles, commonly known as imposing an encumbrance on the register.

It was learned that the involved seaside homes are houses no.40, no.66, no.138 and no.148.

The no.40 and no.148 houses were said to have been occupying public land for personal use such as gardening and storage purposes.

The no.66 and no.138 houses were proven to have unauthorized building works.

The actions from the authorities came after they had conducted a joint operation last month at the luxury private residential estate to inspect over 85 houses to check for unauthorized construction and other violations of the regulations.
