Tankoa’s Kinda a Placid Paradise
From its boutique shipyard headquarters in Genoa, Italy, Tankoa launches innovative custom and short series yachts of 47 meters or more. The Tankoa motor yacht Kinda was the fourth 50-meter hull in the S501 all-aluminum series, and the second in that series to use hybrid propulsion. Delivered in June of 2022, the yacht debuted at the Monaco Yacht Show in September of the same year.
Like her hybrid predecessor Bintador, Kinda’s low rise, graceful profile is defined by a vertical bow, large windows, generous beach club and swim platform, and a majestic main staircase. New highlights on Kinda show off a stunning 5,000-liter foredeck pool, and attractive main staircase featuring polished stainless steel banister and pillar, with wooden steps. Of note are the deeply raked bridge windows, as well as the chamfered edges and climbing chine that contribute to both form and function, giving Kinda a distinctive look.
The owner’s first tri-deck yacht, the design was tailored to family cruising in comfortable, quiet quarters. Clever exterior styling connects the oversized windows, creating the appearance of a streamlined, uninterrupted stretch of glazing wrapping the main and upper decks.
Kinda by the numbers
At 49.9 meters in length, Kinda has a 9.4-meter beam, and a 2.4-meter draft. Accommodations are luxurious for 12 guests in six staterooms and generous for nine crew plus Captain’s cabin. Designed by Francesco Paszkowski with interior collaboration from Margherita Casprini, the refined contemporary features reflect the owner’s preferences, embracing earth tones, brushed oak, leather panels, nubuck, and sandblasted Botticino and Saint Laurent marble.
Saint Laurent marble is a natural, semi-precious, black copper marble boasting shades of cocoa, traced with white veins and sporadic copper-toned lines. Botticino, in contrast, is an ivory marble with hazelnut veining and splashes of light cream throughout. Botticino is resistant to freezing and bending, perfect characteristics for bath or outdoor applications. Both mesh beautifully with the interior color palette.
Walls have leather panels in hues of grey. Headboards of sumptuous nubuck complement dark grain leather in the master and VIP staterooms. Dark brown leather is used in the four lower-deck guest staterooms. Dark brown leather Venetian blinds and chaise lounge grace the upper deck. Mirrors have been treated to deliver smoky-toned reflections that work with the floor and wall marbles. Ceilings lacquered in pale tones and brushed oak soles give spaces a chic edge.
Frameless glass balustrades keep views beautiful. Hardtop skylights have tinted glass. Furniture from Italian houses includes Talenti and Kettal for outdoor furnishings, Minotti for sofas, armchairs ottomans, and coffee tables, and Galotti&Radice for chairs.
Hybrid propulsion via MAN and Siemens systems offers three cruise modes from two V12 1400 kW MAN diesel engines, two 300-watt electric engines, and two 250 kW generators with 300 kW batteries. The system allows for quiet night anchoring and docking, with silent and emission-free motoring in protected areas, allowing access to beautiful preserves and waters while reducing fuel consumption.
Top speed is 18 knots, with a cruising range of 4500 nautical miles at 14 knots. The results vary depending on cruise mode. Options include diesel mechanical, diesel electric, and full electric. Top speed in diesel electric mode is 10 knots. In roadstead/at anchor mode, Kinda provides seven hours of power.
