Back in 2019, Wajer would go on to win numerous awards and nominations for their 55 S model. Why is there so much attention on what is essentially a superyacht tender? Well, it’s time to find out!
For example, Holland, the country Wajer was founded in, is a powerhouse of superyacht and boating manufacturers, and Wajer has managed to join by crafting flawless, exclusive, and some of the fastest luxury tenders I’ve ever seen.
Now, to kick things off for the 55 S, take a nice long look at the images in the gallery, and once you do, I feel you’ll be able to understand why this design won the title of Motor Boat of the Year back in 2019, and a since then, nominated for countless other awards.

For starters, the 55 S is the next stage in the evolution of the 55, yet another of Wajer’s beloved tenders, and with that, the manufacturer aimed to build a vessel that is “lighter, faster, and more versatile” than its predecessor. Did I mention comfort, performance, and all the other goodies needed to rack up a price tag of over $2M? That’s right, a Wajer 55 S is typically priced around $2M, and that’s just for a standard model, with very little to no modifications or customization.
One of the main reasons why these babies fetch so much is because the 55 S is more than just a tender; it can be your overnight and intimate escape from the world. For example, each ship is 55 ft (16.7 m) long and has a beam of 14.4 ft (4.4 m) at its widest, so naturally, Wajer and the other two teams involved in designing the 55 S, Sinot Yacht Architecture, and Vripack, were able to include not one, but two staterooms in the lower deck.
This means that four people can take exclusive trips around the local island chain and even spend the night in some hidden cove or bay. There’s even a bathroom down here, and the magic doesn’t stop there either; the rear of the 55 S’ lowest deck also includes a toy garage. This section of the boat is accessed by lifting the rear deck and lounge into place.

I also mentioned that this thing is fast, so we should take a look at the sort of performance it brings to the tender table. Right off the assembly line, a 55 S can reach a top speed of 38 knots (44 mph) under half-load and cruises at 28 knots (32 mph) for up to a maximum of 400 nautical miles (460 miles). This is all made possible by a 625-gallon (2,366 l) fuel tank and the presence of three Volvo Penta IPS 600 D6 engines with 435 hp a piece.
Yet, what I loved most about this tender and all it has to offer is the lifestyle its deck layout offers. At the rear, one configuration is for those of us who just like to lounge around and includes a rear-facing sunbed, while another is for those of us who love having fun in water; the teak deck is for those folks.
But, no matter the layout, both versions include that forward lounge and access to it via that beautiful walk-around around the central console. A hardtop bimini ensures you have a way to escape direct sunlight when you’re out at sea, and a removable one can be added over the forward sunbed.
Furthermore, Wajer is the sort of crew that allows its future owners to customize their future boats. But as we know, customizing a ship or boat of this standard typically racks up quite the pay stub.

For instance, Northrop & Johnson recently posted a Wajer 55 S as being up for sale by its previous owner. Considering this is a customized unit, guess how much it’s going for? No less than €2.6M, which is around $2.8M, so nearly an extra $1M just to customize one of these babies.
The version selling on Northrop & Johnson, Moneypenny, was built in 2022 and still benefits from Wajer’s ongoing care package, and as of October 2023, it’s undergoing winter maintenance. Once it’s spat back out, the new owners – that could be you – will be getting their hands on what is essentially a new ship.
One notable feature of Moneypenny is its Porsche Nautic Metallic livery. I’m not sure if Porsche has anything to do with the 55 S, but that alone must have cost the current owner quite a bit of that extra $800K in upgrades and customization. The carbon fiber exterior trim is another aspect where some of that cash went. Two Seabobs, SUP boards, and minijet tenders were also thrown into Moneypenny’s garage.
