Kris Jenner, momager par excellence and queen-maker, is no stranger to drama. As the mother of six children, she’s experienced her share of chaos. However, the 68-year-old encountered a different kind of turmoil aboard the $300 million luxury yacht, Rising Sun, owned by David Geffen, while in the company of her boyfriend, Corey Gamble. The luxury vessel became the target of environmentalists who poured buckets of paint on its sides. The Rising Sun, known for its gargantuan size of 453 feet and 82 rooms, is a testament to its billionaire owner’s lifestyle. Due to its prominence, climate activists hurled black paint on the vessel. Kris Jenner was enjoying a hearty meal on the deck when the incident occurred.

According to onlookers, some activists held signs that read “Combustible Fossils” and “Tourism” in the presence of the police. Jenner, who is worth nearly $200 million per Forbes, was accompanied by billionaire David Geffen during the protest. As reported by Daily Mail, Jenner kept her cool throughout the incident, which is not surprising for those familiar with the reality show Keeping Up with the Kardashians, which catapulted the family to worldwide fame and immense fortune.

The matriarch, who lives a luxurious life along with her ultra-rich business mogul daughters, was spotted on another luxury vessel last year in an atmosphere of merriment. Jenner was seen enjoying the company of her friend Lauren Sanchez, along with Corey Gamble, aboard the $500 million Koru megayacht. They were celebrating Sanchez’s engagement to Amazon co-founder Jeff Bezos. The experience aboard the Rising Sun will undoubtedly be unforgettable, perhaps even more than the time on the Koru yacht, due to the action-packed stint in Barcelona.

In September 2023, Walmart billionaire heiress Nancy Walton’s $300 million superyacht Kaos was similarly vandalized with red paint by eco-activists for the second time. The eco-activist group Futuro Vegetal attacked the 360-foot-long boat docked in the port of Barcelona with biodegradable red paint, carrying a startling sign that read “Billionaires should not exist.” Assuming the black paint splashed on the Rising Sun is of the same kind, the vessel’s 45 crew members should be able to restore it to its original condition.

The Rising Sun:

The pleasure craft boasts an impressive list of features. With a length of 453 feet, it accommodates 16 guests in 8 opulent cabins, each with direct access to the exterior side decks. The yacht has a crew of 45, five decks, and countless amenities. Larry Ellison, CEO of Oracle Corporation, knew a thing or two about superyachts when he commissioned it in 2004 from Germany’s Lürssen at its Bremen shipyard. From one billionaire to another, the vessel has maintained its grandeur with expansive outdoor and indoor living areas, numerous alfresco dining options, high-end interiors with modern furnishings, and state-of-the-art technology.

The Rising Sun yacht includes a full-service spa, gym, a large swimming pool on the main deck, and multiple Jacuzzis with stellar views. It also features a double-height theater with plush seating, a basketball court, a wine cellar, and a helipad for easy and quick transportation. Businessman David Geffen has owned the superyacht since 2010.

Who is David Geffen?

Worth $9.10 billion, Brooklyn-born David Geffen founded Geffen Records, the music label he sold to MCA for $550 million in 1990. The co-founder of DreamWorks SKG, Geffen dropped out of two colleges: the University of Texas at Austin and Brooklyn College. As one of the wealthiest individuals in the entertainment industry, he owns an enviable art collection, real estate in New York and California, and the 453-foot yacht Rising Sun. He has contributed to society by donating millions to institutions such as UCLA, where the David Geffen School of Medicine is named in his honor, the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, and the David Geffen School of Drama at Yale University.
