What would be the ideal boat for a Formula 1 driver? A sporty, super-fast yacht, you might think. The answer, however, isn’t so obvious. Fernando Alonso is the perfect example, who instead of gliding over the water as he does the asphalt, has chosen to cruise quietly and consciously aboard the 60 Sunreef Power Eco, a catamaran designed with a green approach.
Spain’s most successful racer commissioned Poland’s Sunreef Yachts (the very same shipyard chosen by Rafael Nadal for his boat) to build an 18-meter catamaran with solar panels, which cover 68.6 m² of surface area on board, along with cutting-edge electric motors powered by the ultralight battery bank for quiet, vibration-free sailing.

“I travel a lot around the world. Once on the track, it’s again all about speed. When I enjoy my time off, I want the exact opposite. I want to travel in total silence, with no fumes, no vibrations,” says Alonso.
The solar panels on the 60 Sunreef Power are fully integrated into the sides of the hull, superstructure, and some of the yacht’s curved areas, becoming aesthetic as well as functional elements that define the exterior design. Alonso’s yacht also features wind generators and eco-responsible finishes to provide an all-around sustainable cruising experience.

The luxury catamaran chosen by Magic Alonso can accommodate up to 12 people, plus four crew members. The six cabins are located in the two hulls, and the main deck — which is extra-wide in catamarans — houses living and dining spaces along with the galley. This environment is surrounded by striking panoramic windows that allow a great deal of natural light to filter through, providing direct contact with the natural surroundings. What’s more, the boat also features several open-air areas forward, aft and on the upper deck, allowing you to truly appreciate every moment of sailing.

Ahead of the delivery of his custom sustainable boat, currently under construction in Gdansk, Poland, Fernando Alonso has been testing other models from Sunreef Yachts’ range of eco-friendly catamarans. In the images featured here, in fact, the Formula 1 driver is seen aboard the Sunreef 80 Eco catamaran, a 23.8-meter model that has the same sustainable principles guiding its design.
“Sunreef Yachts was an easy choice for me. It combines luxury and sustainability like no other shipyard. When I visited their facility in Poland, I saw firsthand how all the details are taken care of. This is what luxury eco-yachting should be,” Alonso concludes.
