This 100-meter luxury expedition vessel concept goes beyond the set standards of yacht design to explore unique possibilities. New York-based yacht design studio Impossible Productions worked with Tim Dempers Studio in Cape Town for over a year to create this bespoke explorer-yacht concept, which combines uber-luxurious yacht features with functional components of a commercial shipping vessel. Designed for a private client, this futuristic megayacht can sail to the far reaches of this planet without compromising on luxury and comfort. “The unique aspects of this design, other than the styling, are operational,” says Veronika Schmid, a lead designer with Impossible. “In fact, the operational aspects informed the yacht’s design from the beginning.”
One of the highlights of the unique design of this explorer vessel is its twin-pod design, which makes the profile of the vessel truly one-of-a-kind. The two large pod structures are covered in tinted glass in all directions and offer 360-degree views over the deck areas and surroundings. “You can find one-pod examples on many commercial vessels and even a few explorer yachts,” Schmid explains.
“But never a twin-pod arrangement.” The aft pod is home to the owner’s suite and also features a skybox on top, which can be used as a large saloon or stateroom. The forward pod is dedicated to navigation and expedition planning. It has two wing stations that allow for better visibility and maneuverability in tight spots. Its massive interior space can also be used as an office, a supercar display, or a storage area for a wine collection.
The area between the two gigantic pods is a protected courtyard that can used as a multi-functional cargo deck. Depending on the sailing mission, the climate-controlled space can be configured into an entertainment area or to store vehicles or shipping containers, depending on the mission. in addition to that, the cargo space has enough space to fit in a large number of toys and tenders, including a seaplane, cars, motorcycles, a sailing yacht, snowmobiles, hovercrafts, and even a blimp.
The lower decks house the six guest suites that can accommodate up to 12 guests, the galley, and quarters for 27 crew. The description on Impossible Production’s official website reads: “Created for the truly adventurous owner, this project seeks to combine the luxury of a superyacht with the practical benefits of a commercial venture.”
