Heesen has announced a significant milestone in the construction of YN 21150, also known as Project Sophia. Last month, the hull and superstructure of this 50-meter fast cruising yacht were successfully joined, marking a crucial step toward her completion. Project Sophia showcases Heesen’s expertise in building fast aluminium yachts with reduced fuel consumption. Her sporty exterior lines are designed by Frank Laupman of Omega Architects, and her luxurious interior is crafted by Cristiano Gatto.
The name “Sophia” is rich with meaning, aligning with the craftsmanship and innovation that Heesen brings to this 50-meter series. The hull of Project Sophia, emerging from Shed 6, represents the technological precision and skilled workmanship of Heesen’s in-house team. Heesen remains one of the few shipyards to construct its own aluminium hulls, emphasizing the company’s commitment to quality.
Heesen places a strong emphasis on the training of its welders, requiring over 500 hours of intensive training to ensure each weld meets the highest standards. Project Sophia features a hard-chine shallow draft hull designed by Heesen’s in-house naval architects. With a draft of only 2.15 meters, she is ideal for cruising the shallow waters of the Bahamas. The yacht’s design enhances efficiency, making Project Sophia 12% more fuel-efficient compared to traditional designs. Equipped with two MTU 16V 4000 M65L engines, she can reach a top speed of 23 knots and has a transatlantic range of 3,100 nautical miles at 11 knots.
Project Sophia offers accommodation for up to twelve guests in five staterooms. The master suite on the main deck forward provides a serene retreat, while four guest cabins on the lower deck offer ample space for family and friends. The interior design by Cristiano Gatto blends sophistication, functionality, and aesthetic appeal, creating a space that exudes refined luxury.
Available for sale, Project Sophia is due for delivery in Q1 2026. This vessel offers an opportunity to own a Dutch-quality yacht with a shortened delivery time.
