We can’t say we’re still mourning the high from the fourth season of Succession, mourning is a more accurate description. However, with Awards Season here, watching the Roys rake in nominations and take home their little trophies has us wishing we could hear Logan Roy bellow “Fuck off!” once again. So in this spirit, we’re here to discuss the wardrobes from Succession, its role in the launch of quiet luxury, and how you can shop the styles yourself.
The first thing to notice about the fashion in Succession is that it has always been subtle. These people are some of the richest on the planet, and almost each and every one of them has been climbing the corporate ladder since they exited the womb, meaning that logos are not a necessary way for the Roy family to communicate their financial status. On the contrary, in the wardrobe department (and perhaps the wardrobe department only) inconspicuous wealth, or “quiet luxury” as you might have been seeing all over your FYP and in countless recent op-eds, is the focal point of each the characters looks, especially those who are in the inner circle.
This idea was echoed on the runway this season, with a freshly welcomed emphasis on timeless pieces, investment dressing, and classic silhouettes that demonstrate the lack of need to flaunt wealth through clothing, especially if it’s easily accessible to the 1%. Some of the most obvious examples from modern brands can be found in Matthieu Blazy’s Bottega Veneta, Ferragamo, The Row, and Maison Margiela.

Shiv Roy
Our corporate queen and ball-buster Shiv Roy has never been one to wear flashy looks. What she does often appear in, though, are various shades of beige and camel to subtly match her hair. Shiv’s looks are all about being taken seriously. No time to be outrageously sexy when you’re planning a hostile takeover of your father’s company! It’s all about a practical blazer and a tactile trouser for efficiency.

Roman Roy is our short, preppy king. While he is known to wear a suit, it is mostly one without a tie, signalling the devil-may-care attitude that seemingly rules his life. He is a ratbag, a slime puppy, and one that would appear to get you in the worst kind of trouble if you were to run into him at a bar for after work drinks. He also loves a short sleeved button down, which gives a “daddy’s boy” effect. He’s not quite as cool as Kendall likes to think he is, and I don’t think he really minds.

The bad boy Roy! We all know Kendall has a rebellious streak, and the way he communicates this is by wearing designers that his family wouldn’t care about (Margiela) and being cringe. This season, it looks like we’re going to be seeing a lot more plain caps, dark glasses, and distressed denim.

Big dog Logan Roy is a classic man at heart. When he’s not wearing a pin-sharp suit, he’s usually seen in a cute little cardigan with a button down, so grandpa vibes. Or, as per the below, he’s seen in some kind of inconspicuous, gorpcore hunting look. Nothing like saying you’re one of the most powerful men in the world with a look that makes you look like you’re part of the secret service.

Usually seen in a floral dress, Willa’s Sandro-driven style has never really struck a chord, until episode 2’s mild meltdown at the rehearsal dinner for her and Connor’s wedding, where she’s wearing a simple, relaxed white suit as she wrestles with the reality of what her life is about to be. Usually quite passive, it will be interesting to see how her style and character develops once the nuptials are out of the way.
