Ambrosia is a true superyacht in every way, including innovation. Custom-built for a loyal customer and a yachting enthusiast in 2006, this Italian masterpiece from one of the world’s top shipyards continues to be one of the most outstanding megayachts in operation. After almost two decades of exclusive private use and game-changing upgrades, Ambrosia is starting a new chapter under different ownership.

This 2006 Benetti is actually named Ambrosia III, because it was Ambrous Young’s third Benetti superyacht named after him. A serial yacht owner and a visionary, the Hong Kong millionaire entrepreneur bought his first luxury yacht back in 1990 and gradually moved to bigger, more innovative, custom pleasure craft.

At the time of its launch in 2006, Ambrosia was rumored to have been built for the main shareholder of the Benetti shipyard and was certainly one of the most unique, jaw-dropping vessels to be spotted in the region. It was also said that Francois Zuretti, widely considered one of the best designers in the world, happened to be a personal friend of Ambrosia’s owner. With such enviable ties to the superyacht industry, it’s no wonder that Young had a bold vision for his new toy and didn’t hesitate to accomplish it.

Ambrosia is, first of all, massive. As a four-deck 212.5-footer (65 meters), it boasts an outstanding 1,640 GT volume, allowing it to accommodate 12 guests and a huge 20-person crew. The names behind this masterpiece are some of the most famous in the industry: Benetti and Espen Oeino signed the naval architecture, Stefano Natucci was responsible for the exterior design, and Francois Zuretti created the yacht’s majestic interiors.

More than a floating mansion, Ambrosia eventually became a technically advanced world cruiser that could make solid explorer yachts blush. The diesel-electric Azipod system was considered ahead of its time; the advanced drives and diesel-electric powertrain lowered fuel consumption and noise levels while enabling a monster range of 9,000 nautical miles (16,670 km) at 10 knots (18.5 kph).

At the same time, the spectacular megayacht boasted incredible amenities for a proven world-cruiser, including a dedicated medical center, a huge outdoor cinema, a full spa, and a gym. A true Zuretti masterpiece, Ambrosia reflected its owner’s bold vision; the “Stargate”-themed circular dining room is probably its most famous feature; the constellations displayed on the deckhead are equally stunning, especially because they’re integrated with the onboard GPS technology, allowing them to adjust in real-time and showcase the yacht’s location at any given time.

This custom megayacht’s original value was never confirmed, but more than a decade after its launch, it was asking for $45 million. By 2017, when it underwent an extensive $4 million refit, Ambrosia had crossed the Pacific twice and literally traveled the world. Earlier this year, the custom megayacht was back on the market with a €35.8 million ($38.4 million) price tag. It wasn’t long before someone snatched this unique, high-end yacht with an impeccable history. As for Young, he’s most likely already working on his next Benetti luxury toy.
