How spacious can a tiny house get without sacrificing the comfort of a classic layout? This remarkable tiny house designed and built in Australia is not only beautifully crafted using locally sourced wood but also supremely spacious.

Why choose between a dual-loft configuration and a main-floor bedroom when you could have both? The fabulous Grevillea goes where few tiny homes dare to venture out, testing the limits of what a small dwelling can offer in terms of accommodation. This is a home on wheels designed to comfortably accommodate five people in three bedrooms; one is a large loft bedroom that can fit a queen-sized bed, the second one is a smaller loft, and the third is another two-person bedroom located downstairs.

If you ask us, a sixth person could be accommodated at least temporarily in the lounge area, as long as there’s a convertible sofa, but officially, the Grevillea is meant to be a five-person home. This makes it a great choice for families looking to downsize or for folks who need extra space and privacy for various activities, particularly working from home.

What’s great about a large, tiny home like this is that it doesn’t need to take away precious space from other living areas to increase accommodation. Even as a five-person home, the Grevillea boasts an airy, well-equipped kitchen with a dining setup, an inviting lounge, and a full-size bathroom.

The Grevillea

As a double-story tiny with a length of 8.4 meters (27.5 feet), the Grevillea is the largest and most spacious model offered by Evergreen Homes Australia. This family-run business knows all about the needs and preferences of a family – founders Adam and Sian lived in a tiny house for seven years. They’ve since moved on to a more traditional but still sustainable lifestyle. The family now lives in a traditional timber house sitting in the middle of a permaculture property in a gorgeous location.

This makes Evergreen Homes Australia one of the few builders around the world to specialize in both homes on wheels and classic timber houses. The woodwork craftsmanship is immediately noticeable in their tiny home builds as well. The Grevillea looks absolutely luxurious with its Redwood shiplap cladding, cypress under loft ceilings, cypress timber countertops, and high-quality timber throughout; plus, all of this is locally sourced. The gorgeous woodwork is complemented by the natural cork flooring, plush carpeted floors in both lofts and high-quality appliances.

A neutral color palette and clean aesthetics really let the beauty of the wood shine through. Here and there, you’ll notice patches of colorful, patterned tile adding an interesting texture – from the staircase rises and the fireplace hearth to the bathroom floor. A full-size fridge and a full-size electric oven found their way into Grevillea’s gorgeous family kitchen. There’s even plenty of room for a dishwasher and a microwave in addition to the two-burner cooktop.

One of the most interesting kitchen features is the slide-out breakfast bar that maximizes space. Together with the two adjustable-height bar stools, it creates the ideal dining setup in front of a large window without taking up any more space than the countertop. The beautiful lounge with a big sofa and a classic fireplace is also part of this open-plan layout that blurs the line between the inside and the outside. Large windows also play an important part in enhancing this connection with the outdoors.

The bathroom and the main-floor bedroom, on the other hand, are separated from the rest of the house through rustic-style sliding doors for privacy. The ground-floor bedroom doesn’t have much space for anything else except the two-person bed, but it feels cozy and airy thanks to the beautiful shiplap walls and the large window. Above it, the large loft bedroom flaunts plush carpeted floors, several windows, and a full-size protection wall for extra privacy.

Above the well-equipped, elegant bathroom, a second loft offers additional space. This one has no windows and comes with an open-work separating wall instead of a solid protection wall. It’s accessed via a ladder, unlike the main loft bedroom, which is connected to a classic staircase. The staircase almost becomes a decorative element thanks to the beautiful tile work and the elegant cypress handrail. As you’d expect, it also provides extensive storage that keeps the kitchen clutter-free.

Luxurious in both styling and equipment, the Grevillea is also a greener alternative to conventional housing. This starts with the use of local wood and continues with wiring the house for solar power and adding a composting toilet instead of a flush one.

High-quality insulation ensures a cozy atmosphere year-round, together with the split cooling and heating system, the fireplace, and the instant gas hot water system. This isn’t a home that only looks pretty – it’s built to last and to ensure the most comfortable living conditions in any weather.

Once again, Aussie builders prove that they’re experts when it comes to tiny homes that are equally gorgeous and sustainable. The spectacular Grevillea is more like a mansion on wheels, proving that downsizing and luxurious living can go hand in hand.
