The GT 63 Does Not Lack Performance Despite ICE-Only Powertrain
Despite not being at the top of the GT four-door line-up, the AMG GT 63 redefines what a performance saloon should be like. The handcrafted 4.0-liter bi-turbo V-8 boasts an impressive 577 horsepower that gets deployed through AMG’s 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system. The stats do not end there, as this engine is an engineering marvel.
It features direct injection, a dry-sump oiling system, and two turbochargers mounted within the engine’s V shape. The engine also features NANOSLIDE cylinder wall technology, this being in-house paint applied to the inside of the cylinder walls. It allows the pistons to glide within the combustion more easily.
This process ultimately extends the lifespan of the engine. A dual-clutch nine-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT automatic transmission helps ensure that the GT 63 accelerates from 0 to 60 MH in just 3.3 seconds, a phenomenal number for a vehicle weighing over 4,700 pounds.
There are six driving modes on the GT 63: Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and Race. There is also an individual mode that the owner can customize to their liking. The slippery mode makes sure that the torque delivery is gentle, the transmission is lazy and the throttle muted. Comfort mode is best suited for daily driving: having a medium throttle with mild transmission response.
Where the sporty GT 63 shines is in Sport and Sport + and race. The shifts get significantly quicker and the throttle becomes progressively more sensitive. The hydraulic suspension stiffens to allow a faster corner approach. It is almost a symphony all around the GT 63 in the sportier modes.
With this amount of performance, it should not be a surprise that the AMG GT 63 is a thirsty sports car. With a fuel consumption of 15/21 MPG (city/highway) and an expected premium gas requirement, the GT 63 will make you visit the gas station often.

The GT 63 Boasts An Impeccable And Useful Interior
The AMG GT 63 shares its interior with a lot of the other four-door coupes from Mercedes’s lineup, especially the CLS. The infotainment system screens, however, seem to be pulled straight out of the GT sports car. While it is somewhat in your face, it allows the interior of the GT 63 to feel like a sports car.
The updated design is now futuristic and not eye-sore, despite the fact that some ergonomic features will take adjusting to, like the almost forgotten touchpad. The seats seem aggressive and comfortable, while the flat-bottomed steering wheel, digital cluster gauge, and aluminum trim follow the same frequency.
The rear seats can also fold down if you ever need them to. But even with its seats up, the AMG GT 63 offers an impressive 12.7 cubic feet of space in the rear-most cargo hold. Despite this adequate amount, there are sporty coupes that offer more, such as the Porsche Panamera.
