Whilst Mercedes-Benz’s bread and butter has mainly been in luxury cars, they’ve also tried their hand at supercars too.

We say ‘tried’ – they’ve created some of the best supercars of all time.

The company has been around for nearly a century and they have a lot of supercars to their name – here are five of the most legendary.

Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR Strassenversion

Mercedes-Benz AG

Mercedes wanted a car that would make its mark in endurance racing and beat the McLaren F1 GTR.

Teaming up with AMG, they designed the CLK GTR Strassenversion, which would go on to dominate at the 1997 FIA GT Championship.

The Strassenversion can accelerate from 0 to 60mph in 3.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 214mph, making it one of the fastest cars of the 1990s.

Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren

This car came as a result of a collaboration between two former foes – Mercedes-Benz and McLaren.

In 1999, Mercedes-Benz unveiled the Vision SLR, a stunning concept car, at the North American International Auto Show.

Four years later, the concept car became the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, equipped with state-of-the-art braking.

Encased by a lightweight carbon-fiber reinforced body and powered by a 5.4-liter supercharged V8, this car is an impressive force on the road.

Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG

Following in the SLR McLaren’s footsteps, Mercedes brought AMG on board to help develop a successor.

Making its debut at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show with gullwing doors, the car went into production a few months later for a 2010 release.

Able to accelerate from 0 to 60mph in 3.2 seconds and capable of 563hp, the SLS was the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 at the time of its release.

Mercedes-AMG GT (C190/R190)

After the SLS was discontinued in 2015, the Mercedes-AMG GT came along to take its place.

Underneath its hood is a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that can reach 456hp in the standard GT and 503hp in the higher-performing GT S.

In November 2020, the Black Series version of the car became the fastest production car to lap the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife  – until November 2022, that is.

More on that…right now.

Mercedes-AMG ONE

This car has been in production since 2022 and is truly in a league of its own.

It can go from 0 to 60mph in 2.9 seconds, and reach a top speed of 219mph.

The Mercedes-AMG ONE is the current record holder for the fastest lap at Nürburgring Nordschleife.

You know you’ve got car excellence on your hands when you keep besting yourself.

Mercedes was the trusted brand of many a driver, including one Steve Jobs who had a trick to keep himself lowkey whilst driving his Mercedes SL55 AMG.
