In a significant breakthrough, Mumbai Police has exposed a car theft gang involved in changing chassis numbers and forging documents for resale.

Mumbai: Mumbai Police have uncovered a car theft gang involved in altering chassis numbers and forging documents for resale. Five high-end luxury cars, valued at approximately Rs 1.5 crore, have been seized. The two arrested individuals are Wasim Altaf Pathan (37), from Madhya Pradesh, and Syed Ayub Khan (34), a native of Ujjain.
Senior Police Inspector Jeevan Kharat of Dindoshi Police Station revealed that during a checkpoint operation near Dindoshi Session Court on Friday night, a Creta car’s suspicious driver prompted a chase. Upon apprehension, it was discovered that the car was stolen, with mismatched number plates and chassis numbers.
The accused driver, charged under the relevant IPC section for theft, revealed during interrogation that he had obtained the stolen car from an individual known for selling stolen vehicles with forged documents. The police subsequently identified and apprehended this person, according to API Suraj Raut of Dindoshi Police Station.
In addition to the seized Creta, authorities confiscated three other vehicles from Karnataka, including another Creta, a Crysta, and a Swift Dzire. Furthermore, a Tata Harrier was seized from an associate of one of the accused in Mumbai.
