There’s no need to choose between heritage and contemporary comfort thanks to luxury yachts like the Silver Seas. This classic American vessel blends the rare value of being the largest open flybridge Burger on the market today with the stunning results of a recently completed major refit.

In 2017, Silver Seas was a beautiful American classic up for grabs. It sported a deep green hull and country-style interiors, resulting from a major refit in 2012. At the time, the nearly twenty-year-old pleasure craft was asking for $6 million. Today, the 107-footer is back on the market, asking for $7.25 million.

This is allegedly half of what the current owner paid for revamping it and aligning it to contemporary standards. The major restoration was said to cost almost as much as it did to build the yacht back in 1998.

Despite its age, Silver Seas has had only four owners so far. It was reportedly built for the owner of an NFL team, then sold to a reputable publisher, followed by an ocean racing sailor. Each of them was a serial yacht owner and a fan of the Burger Boat brand. The current owner apparently enjoyed restoring old Burger yachts. He funded an eight-year restoration of his first one and did the same for Silver Seas despite the huge cost.

The two-decade-old vessel got what is officially considered a major refit, meaning a major engine overhaul coupled with a full paint job. But the overall revamping process involved much more than that. The old hull was restored and smoothed before painting; all the windows were replaced; the woodwork throughout was varnished. New additions included marble tile, premium kitchen appliances, chrome plating on all the brass hardware, and a wide selection of water toys.

The refreshed Silver Seas is a light blue yacht with modern amenities and beautifully styled interiors. Design-wise, this is an open flybridge with a raised pilothouse. It’s the largest of its kind on the market, out of those created by the legendary Don O’Keeffe, Burger Boat’s naval architect.

This 107-footer (32.6 meters) is surprisingly generous in terms of accommodation. It can welcome up to eight guests in four elegant staterooms and up to six crew members. A sophisticated marble guest foyer provides access to all four cabins.

The master suite is located forward. It boasts a king-sized bed, a walk-in wardrobe, a library, and ample storage. The en-suite his-and-her bathrooms are truly decadent, displaying an extravagant mix of cherry wood, marble, and gold-plated fixtures.

The other two cabins, one to port and two aft, also feature en-suite marble bathrooms, entertainment systems, and generous storage.

When it comes to dining, Silver Seas is no less versatile than contemporary family yachts. It offers the classic formal dining setup in its main salon, informal dining in its beautiful country-style kitchen, and multiple options for dining in the open air on the flybridge and aft deck.

The six-person formal dining area is part of Silver Seas’ impressive main salon. Full-length windows and glass doors create the kind of indoor/outdoor flow you’d find onboard contemporary yachts. Classic elements, such as the satin-finish cherry wood panels and carpentry throughout, blend harmoniously with contemporary pieces of furniture and modern artwork.

Also included in the main salon are a spacious lounge area located aft (with a large entertainment center discretely tucked away inside a cabinet) and an elegant custom-built wet bar with a granite top.

The country-style kitchen is one of the most unique features on board this classic yacht, adding a warm, family-friendly vibe. Most contemporary yacht galleys are all about premium appliances and a professional appearance. This one feels exactly like a “home away from away” kitchen, perfectly suited for casual dinners at sea.

Silver Seas is also ideal for enjoying the outdoors. Although not formally a superyacht in terms of size, it boasts the vast exterior spaces of much larger vessels. Guests have access to generous walk-around side decks connecting the foredeck with the aft.

The foredeck, with ample bulwarks protecting it against the elements, is connected to a secluded sunbathing area with several sun pads. A staircase provides access to the yacht’s spacious flybridge on the aft deck. This is where guests can enjoy a beautiful outdoor lounge with sun loungers and umbrellas.

The aft deck functions as a winter garden – one of the most modern spaces onboard this classic yacht. It features retractable glass panels and advanced climate control so that guests can enjoy it even in unfavorable weather. In the evening, it can turn into an elegant space for al-fresco dining, with full, unobstructed views.

A yacht this size couldn’t flaunt a lavish beach club. Yet, Silver Seas’ teak transom platform doubles as a swim platform when the boat is at anchor. After the recently completed refit, it offers a generous selection of toys, including a speedy center console Intrepid tender.

For the past three years, this American classic also proved to be a popular luxury charter yacht. It completed countless cruises throughout South Florida and the Bahamas, with weekly rates starting at $45,000. The overhauled MTU engines claim to be in excellent shape, enabling it to cruise smoothly at 16 knots (18.4 mph/29.6 kph).

Silver Seas is 15 years old now but doesn’t show it. After investing in its biggest refit and enjoying it for several years, the current owner, who is approaching retirement and looking for something else, is ready to say goodbye. Packed with modern amenities, Silver Seas is, first and foremost, an iconic design from one of America’s greatest builders, Burger Boat. It deserves to keep cruising for another 15 years and has all the power to do that.
