The dusty days of Heesen flagship Galactica are over as the ship owned by sanctioned businessman Vagit Alekperov has been delivered to her new unnamed owner. The newly named Genesis, famous for getting stuck multiple times in European waters, has finally bid adieu to Dutch waters. Heesen Shipyard stated that the yacht had been officially delivered to her new owners. “The full custom 80m superyacht, built in Oss (the Netherlands), was delivered to her new owners on August 31, 2023, leaving the Dutch waters.

The sale and delivery of the yacht have been coordinated with the Dutch authorities. Everyone at Heesen is delighted to see the shipyard’s flagship sailing away and wishes her owners and their crew fair winds and following seas.” 262 feet Genesis was Heesen Yacht’s largest build to date and belonged to the yard owner Vagit Alekperov (he had the company shares transferred to an independent Dutch Foundation), who was also the president of Russia’s oil giant Lukoil.

Vagit Alekperov the owner of Galactica (now Genesis) also owned Heesen yachts.

Dutch authorities coordinated the sale, and with a new owner, she may or may not have a new name. Superyacht Russian tycoon who owns Heesen is one of the world’s largest superyacht builders and was sanctioned by the UK in April.

At the time, the 262-foot all-aluminum flagship was in Harlingen, the Netherlands, undergoing finishing work. The boat stayed put until a new owner whisked her to busier shores.

Genesis, an eternally gorgeous ship-
Genesis was the work of a UK-based design studio, Winch Design, with interiors by Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design and naval architecture by Van Oossanen Naval Architects. The luxury vessel justifies her unusually shaped bow- resembling the open jaw of a killer shark with an insane top speed of 30 knots. The boat accommodates 12 guests in six cabins, while the owner will have a suite on the main deck. The owner’s suite was described as the most opulent section of the vessel.

“It’s the most luxurious space on board. It’s really a showcase of the level of detail that Galactica offers,” shared a source. The ship has amenities like a glass-bottomed swimming pool, helipad, and an oversized tender garage. But it is Genesis’s beach club with a striking backlit onyx bar that deserves a special mention. The massive tender garage also deserves accolades for housing a Winch-designed custom limousine. CEO of Heesen Yachts Arthur Brouwer commented on the project, stating, “She is unique not only for our shipyard, she is the largest we have ever taken on and represents the pinnacle of our achievements to date.”
