Scottie Scheffler won the 2024 Masters Tournament on Sunday and now belongs in rarified golfing air as one of less than 20 humans to have won the tournament twice.
While hoisting up the sterling replica of The Masters trophy during his second green jacket ceremony, we spotted an appropriately colored Rolex Submariner attached to his wrist.
First released in 2010 and discontinued in 2020 with the launch of the current iteration of the Rolex Submariner, the Rolex Submariner 116610LV was a surprise in many ways to Rolex aficionados when it first launched.
It wasn’t the first Rolex Submariner to feature a green bezel; the Submariner 16610LV “Kermit” was already a well-known model. But it was shocking for a matching colored dial to appear on a steel iteration of the iconic diver, given they usually always featured black dials.
Today, this unmistakable Rolex Submariner is widely known as the “Hulk” in watch circles for both obvious and more nuanced reasons.
Its distinctive green-on-green Maxi sunray dial and matching ceramic bezel exude Hulk vibes. But the Hulk name also felt appropriate given some of the watches chunkier detailing compared to previous Submariner iterations, including wider and square lugs and a larger crown guard.
Scheffler wearing one this year isn’t surprising, though – one could argue it’s the perfect Rolex sport watch to go along with the tournament’s iconic green jacket. But it is a change for the golfing star.
After his first Masters victory in 2022, Scheffler wore another Rolex sport watch with a notable nickname, a.k.a. the “Root Beer” GMT-Master II ref. 1267IICHR. However, another significant figure at The Masters green jacket ceremony wore a “Hulk” right next to Scheffler – Augusta National Golf Club chairman Fred Ridley.
